So, USSkins....
I liked this episode better than last week. Cadie! <3 She's really developing as very different from Cassie.
Awesome things:
*"I think I might be happy...happier..."
*Pretty purple pills!
*"No dealing drugs in the pharmacy!!"
*How many doctors is she seeing? So many meds....At least one of them was up front with her, and told her that drugs won't solve all her problems if she's not honest with people about how they're mistreating her
*Seriously thought she killed her dad for a minute there...
*Chelle's mom= Regina George's mom.
*Lol, Tea's friends are so heteronormative. Preach, lesbian with gorgeous hair.
*Cadie/Eura are kindred spirits. I like what they're doing with her here. She's already starting her awesome sublimial advice.
*Also, lol Chris "Cadieshack" and "creepy little sister"
*Cadie/Tea <3 thank you for caring Tea. At least someone feels bad about how they've treated her.
Then the ep took a turn for the worse:
*What is with the creepers in this episode?? So much masturbation and pedophilia....ugh, just no. Chelle's mom's boyfriend is who the PTC should be worried about.
*Stan...I want to like you, but violating Michelle's teddy bear? Really??
*"You felt something!!" Yeah, a pathetically small boner. Just stop Tony. At least they succeeded in making him absolutely nothing like UK Tony. Too bad they made him a total shithead without Tony's smarmy charm.
*"I care..." Do you really Stanley? Since when, since the pigeons told you she was being molested by a creepy old dude? At least he managed to wake up out of his stoner haze at an opportune moment.
*Cadie's mom sucks. Even worse than sex painting parents, at least they weren't the direct cause of Cassie's OD. Way to end on a depressing note.
Oh Glee, I feel exactly like Sue about this episode. So many bells and whistles and yet I'm still bored....
*I hate Katy Perry, forreals. California Gurrrlsz makes me want to stab out my ear drums.
*Oh look, more bullying, but now the bullies must learn what it feels like to be a loser. How will this end up?
*They dance together, they fight some more, they win a football game, and then it's back to the bullying status quo. Surprise, surprise.
*How the hell have people not noticed that Karofsky flinches every time someone says the word "gay"? I'd like to see a redemptive arc for him, but I don't trust RM to write one that is at all satisfying.
*Darren and the acapella boys are lovely, but really, Destiny's Child? They cannot convince me that there are any straight boys at that school.
*And the merry-go-round of relationships rolls back around to Finn/Quinn. Really show? *Yawn*
And now for a few positives:
*Tina/Rachel/Mercedes in football uniforms! So cute, especially when Tina squeaks "Did we win?"
*Brittany vs. the human cannon: "I don't wanna die, at least not until One Tree Hill is canceled". Oh Brittany, I watch this show for you. <3 And Santana's fine ass. Unf.
*Naya singing "Heads Will Roll"! I could do without Thriller, moar Santana, less Artie plzkthnxbai.
*"Need You Now" was pretty good, Lea and Mark have the perfect voices for it. (But lol, they sing a country song about drunk-dialing your exes to try and convince the black football player that they sing more than just "the music of his oppressors"? /irony)
And now for the UK Skins quarter-season review! I've been meaning to do this for a bit.
I'm loving this season, for real. It's reviving everything I find magical about Skins, the friendships, the balance of comedy and drama, the cinematography, the acting, all spot on so far. I think they've gotten a few key things right to pull me back in this series:
*Dakota is amazing. Great choice for lead character and lead-off episode. Introducing us to the characters from the eyes of "the outsider" was a spectacular idea.
*Mini, also amazing. Perfect love-to-hate character, she's such a bitch, but her insecurities are all right there below the surface, and you could start to see them through the cracks as soon as Franky showed up. I'm not much of a betting person, but I might wager money on Mini being a closet homo. And Freya's facial expressions! Solid gold.
*Rich&Alo and Rich/Grace. I'm in love. Epic bromance, check. Opposites-attract romance with great chemistry and pacing, check. Love, love, ♥
*I like Liv and Matty from the little we've seen of them, and I'm interested to know more. Only character I'm 'meh' about is Nick, and he's had a grand total of about 2 lines. I'll reserve judgment til after Mini's ep when we see some more of him.
Probably my favorite thing about the series so far though is that it's not just a collection of episodes, it has a defined, over-arching theme. It was there in the trailer, and it was written on the white board from day one: Is identity a choice? Every character gets a shot at answering that. They all have a persona that they project, that is part of them or is something they aspire to or is a mask they use to hide their true self. Then they get a chance to explore how that identity makes them, how they make it, and how they can change and grow and define themselves differently if they want to. A++ to the writers on this, if only they could have gotten their shit together and planned out S4 as well. OK, no more whinging about how Gen 2 was gypped, I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy this series, because it's the best thing on my tv right now (and by tv I mean shitty livestream/downloaded to my computer :P) The only bad part is that after 2 episodes we're already a quarter of the way through the series.
