San Diego Chapter2

Oct 25, 2010 12:52

it is monday morning and i am not working. it is fabulous! Andrew took a long weekend to visit after we learned we had to install a new Gas Turbine Engine on top of the Free Turbine we already replaced earlier in this maintenance availability. so i left the ship after all the pipes woke me up and mozied over to Andrew's hotel on the dry side for some breakfast, coffee, and internet. He is doing his morning study as i did mine this morning. We were going to go for a morning run, but it is raining and ugly outside. I hope that this San Diego weather system passes in time for us to go to the Zoo.

seems like this rain likes to come down on the days we have stuff planned to do outside. Saturday was SeaWorld and it rained so i bought this hideous orange hat to try to stay dry (didn't want to have to do my hair twice in the same day). Andrew's favorite was the penguins but boy do they smell. i liked all the people watching. about 6 months ago my parents and i went to SeaWorld before our Mexican Riviera cruise. Then we lost the car and it took about 45 min to find. it was raining when we got out and all i could think about was getting a stupid hat. not to mention that i rented a car, a Silver Chrysler Sebring, doesn't really stand out in a crowd. I drug Andrew to Karen Cobb's baby shower, but there were families and other guys there so i didn't feel too bad, karen wanted to meet him anyways.

We ventured to Coronado because it is beautiful in search for a coffee shop. but while we were walking down Orange Avenue and stumbled upon a theater about 15 min from starting its show of the night... and there were seats available. they were $58 but the lady said it was the best play she had seen in a long time. she asked us if we were under 30 years old and we said yes. she could get us tickets for half price! the play was fantastic about the man who started Habitat for Humanity and how he got there. it had been too long since i had been to the theater. http://www.lambsplayers.org/whatsPlaying/glory/glory.html and the review http://www.sandiego.com/arts/the-glory-man-at-lambs-players they sang some great hymns and the Gospel wasn't that distorted. the opening song was terrific Soon I'll be gone from the troubles of this world, a traditional southern hymn. the main character, Clarence Jordan might have been delusional and had tons of faith but the play made me think and cry and sing along. later on we met up with Marcus and Kara at Longboards for some reggae.

Sunday came with the early service at church where we studied Revelation 7 which is a parentheses between Rev6 and Rev8. "After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” " Rev 7: 9-10. For those in Christ, the second coming of Christ will bring celebration that he has come to redeem his people, but for those not in Christ it will face the wrath of God. it sounds bad, but that is why Christ came, to seek and save the lost and we preach the Gospel. "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10

After church we went to Mission Beach to watch the 'Skins and Bears play like garbage committing over 15 turnovers. Sneak Joint was filled with Redskins fans and we celebrated Marcus' 31st birthday. then the Seahawks, beat our division rivals the Cardinals by 12 points and the line was 5.5 points. so we took over the lead in the NFC West, but most people think that we have the easiest division. we will see how many weeks we remain on top. while i watched my game Kara and Andrew had a very indepth conversation about Christianity and relationships. Kara's boyfriend Drew comes home this week and this was how the whole thing started. I was proud of both of them, they were patient with each other's point of view and able to defend their own.

We went for a 4 mile walk along the boardwalk and it was nice to get to talk. i mean we talk a lot, but sometimes hard to talk about the difficult part of our lives in being friends and what we want out of this life. the play's opening song was about what we do in this life only mattering because of what we will do in the next, i forget the exact song.

and that brings us to today, this rainy monday morning. SD Zoo day. my second cup of coffee is brewing in the Keurig and Andrew reads and scribbles in his composition notebook.

tomorrow is back to work, getting the ship prepared for drydock. it has been a long inport and an extended time in San Diego for the crew. we need to get underway and do our job.

be blessed
