so, I wanted to get a hike in before my lovely wife got here tomorrow. I went from school, to home, grabbed a couple things, and went up to Cypress, from cypress, I let the night guy know I was leaving my truck, and not to panic, and then I told the girl at the bar the same things, and I headed up the howe sound crest trail. I left cypress at about 17:45 or so. I managed the south peak of mt unnecessary by sunset. I bivied at sunset, sleeping in a down jacket, and some jogging pants. I watched the persied meteor shower from 1570m (just under a mile high, at 5150 ft). it turns out that it's really, rather chilly at night up on mt unnecessary, as I shivered myself awake a couple times through the night.
in the morning I hiked over to the base of the west lion, but I decided against climbing it due to rock-fall, being on my onesies, and because while I was sure I could get to the top, I wasn't sure how I'd get back down. while I was standing thinking about whether I'd go for it or not, I hung out with a raven, and fed him some of my chocolate. he stayed with me for the rest of the morning.
in the end, I wound up just wandering back, and taking a nice leisurely walk down to the hill :)
