The Girl Detective

Yeah, Angel is #1 for me, too, crazy worldbuilding and over-elaborate plotting and melodrama and characterisation issues and all. :)

There is a thesis waiting to be written, or possibly already written somewhere, on the relationship between the MEverse and the VMverse, and not in a shallow 'look, it's the new Buffy!' way. I saw somewhere that Rob Thomas said he hadn't seen much Buffy; that may well be true, but I'm pretty sure this show would not have been made in the form it's in if Buffy had not existed. There are things it shares with Buffy, and some things it does better and some it does worse, but for all that it's an easy comparison I think it's more than a superficial one. And it's an interesting comparison to Angel too, for different reasons, although I'm even more sure that's not deliberate (don't laugh, but I thought Veronica had a couple of Angel-ish moments, even). I already found this analysis of the moral universes of the two shows (spoilers up to VM 1x21), but I'm sure there's more to be said.

Thanks for the other links! I will investigate...
