Setup For Failure

At our hotel on the night shifts we have MIN staff and around 6am I'm pretty much the only one here. We also do not have any access to basics such as a hammer or a plunger. This is a huge management suck. And it sets me up to fail. But I'm the one who is going to pay.

Around 6:30am a guest called to say that their toilet is clogged. Well, gee, fuck...nothing I can do about it. See, that's an engineering thing. And no one from engineering is here. I don't have any access to a plunger. Yeah. I offer the use of the public restroom but that is not the answer. So I give them keys to another hotel room that is two floors down because we are nearly sold out and we don't have anything avail on their floor. Oh, yes, you'll have to get the key yourself. You wanted it NOW NOW and trying to call down to the laundry and seeing if anyone is there will take longer and I can't leave the desk.

So the guest is now apocalypticly mad. They have to come down in their bathrobe to get a key to a room two floors down to use the bathroom and there are five people in the room too. I'm now rude and lying because I have no idea when engineering comes in. Could be 7am it could be 9am. They misunderstood when I said no rooms avail (ON THEIR FLOOR) as no rooms at all. Whatever. I'm screwed. Because now there is a MAJOR ISSUE and it's my fault for not handling it correctly. They cannot be consoled. We offer full refunds and all their points back plus 100,000 points and that's not good enough. I could be fired for this. I don't work until Weds but I am just waiting for a phone call or text from my boss...

I hate this job. I am going to be the blame for this when all it could be solved with a plunger. Had an issue with a nail poking out of a door frame. Guest stepped on it. No hammer around to fix it. Why? Basic stuff! No engineering on staff at night. All that stuff is locked up. No keys to it. WHY?!

lack of compassion, hospitality, i need a new job now, time to move on, set-up to fail, filing a report, piss poor planning, someone's gonna get fired, scapegoat, bad boss, i don't suck, management, hotel glamour
