Harvesting my sunflowers... One head made it to 15" diameter. Very proud. Going to try a roasting experiment: hot-air popcorn popper. Some web sites say it's good for roasting coffee beans (rather useless to me,) so I'll try the test... Will post results here.
The
method I found that talks about roasting seeds wasn't all that great, or I didn't do it long enough (40 mins!) or hot enough, or altitude variations, or using stoneware instead of metal, etc. etc...
Also eating an apple from my apple tree. Mmmmmmm! Very crisp! Again, very proud, because the apple wouldn't fit in our apple slicer to be cut, so I had to use a knife. GRANDOTE!
That, and the occasional 5-10 pound zuchinni from the garden is an added bonus. Oh, and two nicely-sized pumpkins for halloween. Now if my watermellons figure things out, I'll be doing okay. Still kinda small, not even softball sized.
And the heinous mesculun (I think that's how it's spelled...) that we accidentally let grow to tree status decided to release all its seeds when we uprooted it, so now I have a yard full. Stinky lettuce.
So, like the busy little ants, we have canned and frozen lots of produce. We'll be fat and happy for the winter.
