Dentists have been telling me for years that my jaw problems are caused by a misaligned bite, and braces could help. About a year and a half ago, I went to an orthodontist for a consult and he concurred, though he was a little more guarded about it. He said that MOST people with similar issues see some improvement, and some see drastic improvements. It's also a total nightmare for me to floss my damn teeth because they are all squished together in there.
So, at the start of our plan year at work, I maxed out my contributions to my FSA. Had my regularly scheduled cleaning and exam yesterday (beautifully healthy mouth), and called the ortho this morning. They have an opening tomorrow morning at ten.
After getting the hardware, I'll need three extractions. I'm already missing one pre-molar on the upper right (genetic mutant me), so they'll pull the corresponding one on the left and the matching pair on the bottom. I am a giant baby, so I'll go to an oral surgeon who will knock me out for that.
