I have a pretty damn cool job. I got to take a "tour" of a OSB (oriented strand board) plant today, for those that have no clue what that means don't feel silly, because I usually just call the stuff particle board but that's different stuff as I have learned today. OSB has large chunks of thin "wafers" pressed into boards with glue, pressure and heat, particle board is like large bits of sawdust pressed into boards with lots of glue pressure and heat. And getting to see the process was just barely connected to the reason I was out there, but I wanted to see it for another report I'll be doing later, and convinced the environmental guy at the plant to show me and my new boss the plant (yes I brought my boss along even though I've only been working for about 4 ish months, she needed to tag along on a field investigation and I happened to be having one today.) Oh I know I mentioned the pressure they use to make these boards but I though it was important to note that before pressing the boards about about 4 to 5 inches thick, and then they go down to about 3/4ths to an inch thick.
In other news I was part of an emergency response of an overturned truck tanker. I am in training for this so I was just tagging along and observing. However seeing the actual response and clean up of the spill was pretty cool to (it wasn't really bad chemical, actually it was just motor oil, only it was a lot of it (not the whole tanker but a small portion of it was large enough) the actual spill not so cool but very interesting to see the response to it all.
