So, I wrote some fanfiction last year!

Fandom:
Le Petit Prince | The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-ExupéryRating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Le pilote | The Pilot, Le Petit Prince | The Little Prince, Le renard | The Fox
Additional Tags: Post-Canon
Summary: "It is not the secret I told him, but it is a secret that every animal knows, even if people have mostly forgotten it."
This was for the Exchange at Fic Corner, a children's literature fanfiction exchange from this fall. I immediately knew that I wanted to do something with Saint-Exupéry's disappearance. This led me to a lot of research on the Île de Riou, much of it in French. (I am apparently better at reading French than I thought I was.) It was convenient that while I was writing this, my company had a summer outing on Thompson Island, which is roughly the size and distance from Boston that Rioux is from Marseille.
This was also my first attempt to write a disabled character, which I hope I did not too hurtfully.

Fandom:
Firefly,
Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster BujoldRating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: River Tam, Jayne Cobb, Simon Tam, Zoe Washburne, Malcolm Reynolds, Taura Vorkosigan
Additional Tags: Drabble
Summary: It's not the Pax riots that really has the Alliance worried...
This was actually a result of watching the entirety of Firefly with my brother-in-law when we visited over Christmas 2012. It got me thinking whether there was a way to connect the Firefly and Vorkosigan universes, both of which have a starfaring human race with no alien intelligences. I posited that the entire solar system in which Firefly takes place is the result of an artificial Time of Isolation and went from there. And of course I made it a drabble so that it would be as difficult to make sense of as possible. :)
Robot Arms (143 words) by

Fandom:
Robot Arms (misread fandom name)Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Additional Tags: Song Parody, Posthuman
Summary:
So now I come to you
With robot arms...
This was the result of
http://jadelennox.dreamwidth.org/466250.html, in which JL misread "Robot Series" and "Robson Arms" as "Robot Arms" and was sad that such a thing didn't exist. I came up with the chorus in the shower and wrote the rest on the subway on the way in to work. This was my first fic that was mostly written in Evernote.
The Land That Our Grandchildren Knew (5903 words) by
cnoocyChapters: 7/7
Fandom:
'39 - Queen (Song)Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
This was my Yuletide assignment. I bounced up and down after seeing
the request, which asked to explain one thing that doesn't quite make sense in the original song. Once I started digging into that, I found more things in the song that needed explaining, and when I surfaced I had the rise and fall of a near-universal government, a new wrinkle on a warp drive, and four generations of an extended family. It felt a bit exegetical, which was a lot of fun.
O Soror (136 words) by

Fandom:
Le Serment des Horaces | Oath of the Horatii - Jacques-Louis DavidRating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Horatia, Curiatia
Additional Tags: Poetry, Dactylic Hexameter
Summary: Horatia Curiatiae breviter flet.
And then there was Yuletide Madness. Last year I wrote a drabble in Latin about Dido, this year I wrote a short poem in dactylic hexameter, which exercised some neglected neural pathways. I wrote this over the course of an evening, which I think is the fastest I've ever written Latin poetry.
None of this would have been possible without the help of my beta readers:
jadelennox ,
yomikoma , and
lumpybeast .
