Sicko the movie

I just finished watching Micheal Moore's new movie Sicko. It really is a must see. It is crazy to think how many Americans have no insurance and the ones that do can not afford anything because of high premiums, high prescriptions, and the insurance industries declining to pay for any reason they can get away with. The major thing I hear from Americans that do not want universal health care (which is found in the rest of the world) is that you pay too much money in taxes for it. I am a nurse I see people everyday burdened not only by their ailments but also by their empty pocket books. To me it would worth paying more in taxes up front for the peace of mind that comes in times of tragedy. Really when you look at it Americans in the end still end up spending more money in the long run because our bills here are so high (and that is just the part that the insurance refuses to pay). On average citizens in countries with Universal Health care live longer healthier lives. The focus is more centered on preventative care. Here people continually put off getting any type of medical treatment because we know up front that we will never be able to pay for it. Many times we die waiting......

It truly breaks my heart to think of all the people in the world who just do not care one way or another if a person they don't know is healthy or ill. We do not care for our fellow man as it was intended for us to do. I keep hoping that one day we will catch on and remember to watch out and protect each other as human beings. Just love....its that simple. Why are things that are so simple so impossible to accomplish?

Disclaimer: and before I get comments about being a "terrorist" or whatever for disagreeing with the "American Way of Life". I know that other countries have problems too. In my mind we would all be able to live a more full and happy life if we were not consumed with worry over health and child care.
