WHO: Nico and Victor
WHEN: December 2017
WHERE: California
WHAT: Nico and Victor have an awkward talk about a very sensitive subject
It's the fifth test that she's taken in the past two weeks, but it's singing the same song as the four tests before it have. Nico is sick of peeing on incriminating little sticks by this point, especially since every three-minute wait for the tests to develop buoys a new bubble of hope in her chest---only to have it popped by the little blue line that points to 'positive' every time.
She's been in the bathroom for over an hour, too nervous to pee. Victor and Tommy know better than to bother her, so she can spend as much time as she wants glaring at the stupid little stick and praying for the other ones to have been flukes.
Nico presses her fist hard against her mouth, trying to muffle the agonized moan that she makes when the blue line appears. Her heart twists in her chest, balling up tight.
She doesn't realize she's shaking until the test falls between her fingers and clatters on the counter. Grabbing for it, she picks it up and snarls "No evidence" to incinerate it between her palms. It goes up in a flash of ruby-red light, not even ashes left. Her stomach lurches and she has to swallow rapidly to keep from throwing up. Again.
She closes her eyes, the edge of the countertop biting into her palms as she balances herself. Nico counts back, going by months, then weeks, then days. Four months. She's around four months pregnant, she figures, thinking about the humid August night that she'd stumbled in on Teddy. She hadn't realized that there would be backlash until her stomach started to pooch out, weirdly round when every other part of her was way too thin to be healthy. It's been two years since she had her period regularly, so she didn't---didn't think until it was too late.
What now?
What is she supposed to do? What is she going to tell Tommy and Victor?
Her face is hot, flushed. Leaning over, Nico turns the tap and splashes cold water on her cheeks in an effort to push the nausea off.
