On the effects of mass.

I'm doing this exercise again, but this time I'm giving you some advance notice: these are my Mass Effect characters. Refrain from asking about actual Mass Effect events (especially as I haven't played ME2 through yet and do not want to be hit with spoilers), but feel free to tailor your questions to your knowledge of the ME universe in general ( ( Read more... )

You know you just pitted four Spectres against each other, right?

Dara vs. Cole: Neither wants to fight a fellow Spectre who didn't do anything wrong. When they realize they'll be shot if they don't comply, they start trying to brainstorm ways to fake killing each other, but finally Cole gets fed up, turns off his shields, and tells Dara just to shoot him. When she refuses, he starts shooting at her, threatening to make the next one fatal... and finally does. He didn't mean to, and he's visibly shaken as he goes on to the next round.

Brit vs. Zaku: These two, on the other hand, have no qualms about getting into an all-out firefight, and have the skills to stay pretty much dead-even. Then Zaku starts talking about what a shame this is, knowing that he can and must defeat her, to end the life of such a beauty, etc. He's not even trying to do so, but this pisses Brit off enough that she forgets her training and charges him. She doesn't make it.

Cole vs. Zaku: Cole still hasn't recovered from the death of Dara and is way off his game at first, but snaps out of it when the first shot gets through his shields. From then on he's all business and outlasts Zaku in a pure endurance fight.

I have yet to play even ME1, although I definitely should, so I'm not familiar with Spectres or the like... just gonna plow on with random stuff!

What is the origin of 3's name? Short for a real name, or is it a nickname?

2 is dying of an incurable medical condition, and is drafting a will. Are 1, 3, and 4 mentioned? If so, how?

4 is dying of an incurable medical condition which doesn't incapacitate one at all until the last 5 minutes or so. Doctors give him a day to live. What does he do?

1, through some fluke of the nature of fictionality itself, finds herself deposited on real Earth, circa these modern days we live in. Finding no hint of a way back, she resigns herself to the notion that she may have to live here permanently. What does she do for work? Hobbies? Where does she settle (either type of tenement, or city, or both?)

Q1: It's short for Brittany, but if you call her that you'll probably lose a body part.

Q2: Well, the four don't actually exist together; each is a different version of the main character. But if we assume they could somehow have met, Cole would give a small but not insignificant bequest to anyone who had served with him more than a couple times and not been a screw-up about it, or had ever clearly saved his bacon.

Q3: He'd immediately find some solo suicide mission to go on. Like hell he's going to check out on anything as inglorious as a disease. (He's also getting in one last go with Liara before he leaves.)

Q4: She'd definitely find 21st century humanity to be backwards, and would probably get involved in lobbying for social change. (She won't be particularly successful at it, as many ideas she takes for granted are things the average human today finds outrageous.) For hobbies she'll take up stargazing, and will take (bittersweet) pleasure finding locations she's visited in the night sky. Between those two needs, she'll reside within an hour's commute of a major political center (probably Geneva or Brussels), but far enough to get a relatively clear sky.
