About five months ago I wrote an analysis of who the final Cylon in Battlestar Galactica might be. It's
here (and spoilerific). But I was watching some episodes with my brothers (who were catching up) just recently, and then it clicked. I know, with something like 90% certainty, who the final Cylon is. It's just too perfect not to be.
If you either want to figure it out for yourself, or are still catching up like my brothers are, or can't believe I'm geeky enough to write two posts on the subject, you can move on to the next post in your reading list. But if you're curious,
read on. Besides, if I'm right, I want a record so I can boast about it, and if I'm wrong, well, it'll be good for a laugh in another ten episodes.
I was thinking about Starbuck again. I already explained why she couldn't be the last Cylon, and I stand by that, but she's definitely something more than human too. Regular humans don't explode in a giant fireball and reappear three months later not sure where the time went. Regular humans don't attract psychotic but spiritual Cylons, or scare the hell out of early-model Hybrids. So I was puzzling over that, in the back of my head, and...
And suddenly I realized there was one other thing she could be. Kara Thrace isn't a Cylon. Kara Thrace is a HALF-Cylon. The twelfth Cylon is Sergeant Major Socrata Thrace.
Cylons can age; Tigh did. Cylons can get sick; they had that whole epidemic. And thus went Socrata, downloading into a new body(?) after her old one was destroyed by cancer. Kara may have given her immunity, like Hera did to Athena and to Roslin, but Roslin's gotten sick again so it doesn't last forever.
And who else draws clairvoyantly? Hera. Somehow she knew about the Sixes. Just like her cousin was able to draw the mandala without ever seeing it.
Before Hera, before Nicky, came Kara. The first Cylon halfling. That's why Socrata knew with absolute certainty that her only child was special, more special than anything else. That's why prophecies abound wherever Kara goes. That's why she's the Harbinger. That's how she made a connection with the Four and used it to find Earth. That's why Leobin recognizes her vast importance on some level while Six and Three are wasting time chasing Hera; that's why the Hybrid in Razor knew about that importance far more directly. That's why she's so awesome and so messed up.
The Cylons had been trying for years to reproduce, and one of their lost number does the job for them without them even knowing. She is the face of things to come.
