(Let's try this again - I had my whole entry done, then somehow deleted it by hitting some (Ctrl) key or something like that. Ugh!!)
Returned back to civilization today with
Merina888 after about a week's respite at my folks' summer place. They have a house way back in the woods of Schoharie County, not far from Cobleskill (Same place I stayed at for BLAZE a few weeks ago). No TV, no internet, no cell phone coverage. Just a land line and a radio as ties to the real world. Nice place to go and forget everything for a few days. Also a good place for jumping off and seeing area sites. Lots of possibilities, though I think the one we favored was R&R, as we did a lot of that, which I think we both needed. The highlight was going to Cooperstown, where we toured the Baseball Hall of Fame. The town itself is a bit more commercial than I'd like. As an example, My Heart's Delight liked the Women in Baseball exhibit, but was disappointed that there was very little in the gift shop relating to it. We found a book in a local shop that was obviously ridiculously overpriced, so just for laughs we jotted down the ISBN number. Searching on Amazon.com, we found the book for half the price as was in the shop.
Other highlights:
I got a call for a "screening interview" at Greece Central Schools, the district in which My Heart's Delight lives. Still have a few other lines in the water, hoping for more bites.
My folks are heading off for their vacation early next week: a 10-day cruise down the Iberian Peninsula with stops in Spain and Portugual. They're planning to come out to Ra-cha-cha later this month to meet my love. Looking forward to that.
Got our aerobic exercise: At my parents' summer place, the car bridge that crosses a creek is being repaired. So,
Merina888 and I had to trudge our luggage and other belongings about 200 yards up a slight incline to where our house was. We could cross the bridge on foot, but new cement abutments had been poured, so we couldn't drive over them with the car. Hopefully, the repairs will be done by the time we go back there later this summer.
Other thoughts:
Drove back to my place in Squirrelville yesterday, so that we could get caught up on what we missed while being away. Am quite numbed by the difficulties that
APOTimber is having dealing with his demons. Wish I could do something to support him, but unfortunately, due to circumstances that, it could be construed, I helped create, I'm not sure any offers of support I could make would be appreciate. Thanks to
cyberjunkie and
berms for their assistance. I hope that your reaching out to him will have the desired effect, and help him toward getting his hands around his situation. At the risk of sounding flip, there's a part of me that would like to anonymously send him a copy of "It's a Wonderful Life." In the occasions that I've had thoughts like he's having (and, yes, they've been a couple of occasions, though not many), I've put myself in the place of George Bailey, and it's always been comforting. We need to let him know, somehow, that there are a lot of people that care about him, and that are rooting for him, and that want to lend him support, moral or otherwise. I'm not sure that will change his thinking, but he needs to know this, at the very least. He's certainly in my thoughts, and I know he's in the thoughts of many others.
Got back to
Merina888's place today, after having gotten halfway here, and having to double back to my place to retrieve the suits I'd forgotten. Need one for Tuesday's interview, and threw in a second just in case. What would normally take two hours and change instead took five. Had dinner tonight with a bunch of her friends, celebrating
skrshawk and
cheshire23's wedding tomorrow. Good food, good conversation, a good time, all in all. Looking forward to tomorrow, and the rest of the weekend.
