First day of class.

Today was the first day of Summer I. I'm teaching American literature. (In case anyone's interested, my syllabus is here.)

Class went well. I managed to get everything done I wanted to get done, even though it was occasionally rushed. My students were cooperative and provided some good thoughts when it was their turn to do so. We start discussing texts tomorrow. I have high hopes for this class. It's about time I got a solidly good class, with no major complications (like plagiarism or personal drama or in-class conflict).

Two problems thus far:

1. My UTA ID card didn't work to get me into the classroom this morning. They said it would. Now they say it should work tomorrow.

2. I have 36 students on my roll (the class caps at 38). Twenty-eight of those students showed up today (and one guy brought his little daughter). There are about 32 chairs in the classroom. So. If everyone shows up next time (or any time), we're in trouble. And because I'm teaching in the science building, I don't know who to talk to about that problem.
