After yesterday's grading and today's attempts to deal with the fallout of handing back four papers that involved plagiarism, I treated myself to a trip to the bookstore. Here's what I got:
- Surrender, Jane Monheit's newest CD.
- Betcha Bottom Dollar, a CD from The Puppini Sisters. It's essentially Andrews Sisters-style reproductions of 1940s and 1950s songs plus a few covers of modern pop songs redone in the same style (like "I Will Survive" or "Heart of Glass," for instance).
- A Fodor's guide to Scandinavia (to facilitate my dreaming of travel).
- Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver.
- The Bloodless Revolution: A Cultural History of Vegetarianism from 1600 to Modern Times, by Tristram Stuart.
- god is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, by Christopher Hitchens.
As much as I don't want to fall into the trap of consumerism as an emotional crutch, damnit if I don't feel better now.
