I have a lot of religious friends on facebook because a lot of people from college and high school have looked me up (and I went to church school during those years). This means that I get to see a lot of status updates and posts from people saying how great God is or how he's helped them or whatever. I generally just ignore those.
One today, though, was someone's status update that said, "God is..." and then a bunch of people had commented on it, completing the sentence with phrases like "good all the time bro," "Love beyond measure!!!!", "my refuge and strength!", or "what keeps me going" (and this isn't all of them).
I really badly wanted to write, to complete the sentence, "not real."
I resisted the temptation because a) I think it would be rude because I really barely know the guy whose status update this is and b) it would just stir up unnecessary trouble, make me look like an asshole, and thereby reinforce people's negative ideas about atheists/atheism. But man did I want to do it.
