How to Do Things Properly: Waiting in Line

Feb 23, 2009 14:43

When the person in front of you gets called forward to be helped, step forward to take the space they had been occupying. That way the people behind you can also move forward.

Of course, this forward motion does not actually speed the process. It does not improve the service or make the other customers less slow. It does, however, do something that is perhaps just as important: it makes those of us waiting in line behind you feel like we're actually making progress instead of just standing still and wasting time.

Taking this small step forward will also lessen the likelihood that the people behind you are giving you dirty looks and directing negative energies your way.

This is the proper way to wait in line.
