So...
mrbubba asked me to expound on the poll I posted last week. It wasn't anything major, just a situation I found a bit perplexing and amusing. I had posted a GRE study book on freecycle, and received a lot of responses. I chose a someone, and we set up a pickup time; but, of course, I couldn't send a "taken" message to the website, because, well, freecycle pickups are notorious for falling through. Instead, I sent individual e-mails to the other people who had requested the book, just so that they wouldn't be left hanging, because it's something I appreciate other posters doing for me. The message I sent said, "This item is pending pickup." Not to sound like a snob, but I assumed that, especially in context, this message would be intelligible to someone presumably studying for the GRE (a graduate level entrance exam). Apparently not, for at least one of the respondents. He sent me back an eager e-mail asking about my address, etc. to come pick up the book. I was chagrined to have to e-mail him back saying that no, he had misunderstood my first e-mail, and the book was scheduled for pickup by someone else. So I posed the question to you all, and on facebook, and was relieved to discover that, indeed, most people understand what "pending pickup" means...
