Morning all
how goes it?
Dribbler is... not too bad right now actually.
nother long walk.
oh yeah, i haven't mentinoed the first one yet...
So Friday evening i had off, and i was bored. got an email from a friend looking to go out, then a phone call from jakalope saying he was playing Ultimate at SAIT, and as i love Ultimate i called friend a) to go play. he is currently benched due to car accident so i headed down myself.
I get there too late and they are already done their game. (stupid C-trains) and they head out to the bar.
I tag along for awhile, but am not feeling to overly social, and a bit off, so i take off, go by a book, and a new board game expansion.
come back, they are now very drunk, and doing things i wholey object too.
So i decided... i needed a longer walk!
So i start out at SAIT, 16th ave and 14thst NW, (after already walkint to 32nd ave and 14th and back for board game)
and my house is... somewhere in the SW, not sure where. according to google maps 25K away. (sheesh that's it? i should enter more marathons...)
I start out at a good pace, it helped that it was a nice night out, not a lot of wind, little cloud cover, about 7 degree i think,
good walking weather.
and being annoyed at the people i was leaving behind let me get a good pace to set myself with.
so i walked, and wondered, and talked to myself,
the cool heads prevail thing really works, its gotten me over some of the times i can get pretty hot headed. i bottle it well, and walking is a great way to just let yourself cool off *nods*
the walk went well. till i got to the end of the street.
it just... ended. very annoying, it stopped, and a big park was now in my way. i've never been to this area of town before, no idea where this park was, where it went etc.
but being a stought hearted, if not fool hardy young ladl i decide to press on.
it continued to go well even though the park was supposed to be closed to the public this late at night, and i was techincally tresspasing.
then, the path (dirt trail) i was taking... ended.
it lead into a paved path straight, paved path to the left, and more park to the right.
So i decide... i've been going straight... let's go straight...
this works for about 40 feet, when suddenly the light stand in front of me went out.
this is strangly not a random occurence with me, i know back when i worked at Molly's and walked home, every day as i walked by this one street lamp it would go out. i actually dilleberatly took the same route home every day, just to check if it would go out on me every time... the only one on the street, but always the same one.
but this time i took it as a bad omen, and headed back.
hmm, paved, lit path leading to street to the left? dark ominous unkown park with no path and in known cyote territory to the right?
...
I was doing good till i hit the river.
stupid river.
It was finally at this point, and 1.5 hours after i left him, that jakalope phones me to try and find out where i am.
So i explain.
"I have no idea'
"what?"
"i"m at a river, in some park, somehwere,"
His reactaion?
"you are going to get raped by a bum, call a cab and get out of there."
and this is from a guy who is leaving to the milliatry college in less then a month?
why are people so afraid of goiing new places, or a little adventure?
*shakes head*
so more wandering ensued, inclduing finding some YMCA camp out in the middle of knowhwere, and wandering through there for a while, accoring to those signs i was in Riverredge park?
(i'm getting tired so might wrap this up a bit :p i don't know how many people are actually going to read all this anyways :P)
i eventually end up at a cross roads... a very familiar looking crossroads, with a path all dark straight ahead, a dirt path behind, and a paved, lit path leading to street to the left.
....
oh fine!
ah ha! another path!
after crossing over the Glenmore Dam, and more trekking, (the dam looked really cool, it was still mostly frozen over and had lights shiging on it in neat patterns)
i make it back to.... 14th st.
where the heck have you been?
so i continue back down 14th, eventually being forced into just following alleys,
and eventually i make it to civilization!
The all night internet cafe.
and much gaming was to be had.
So all in all, i walked about 20K in about 2.5 hours,
other than the slight detour, not a bad walk i don't think.
today, i slept in too late to make it too 13urton's vietnamesse diner, sorry.
went over to friend a)'s house, and taught them all to play Ticket to Ride, and my new 1910 expansion, great fun.
walked home again.
(google maps..... only 10K this time)
and i am damn glad i invested in these new walking shoes, their uberness lets me walk more.
Really made me want to go on a good hiking/camping trip this summer. I know we got the Gen con thing planned.
but a good hike in with backpack, spend a weekend hiking, and hike out kind of trip.
Any takers?
