Book 50 of 50

Title: Catching Fire
Author: Suzanne Collins
Genre: Science Fiction, Fiction, Dystopia, Young Adult

Summary (from Amazon.com): Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge.

Comments: Like the first in this series, this book was also hard to put down. It delves more deeply into the politics behind the Hunger Games and how the government is using the games and peoples sympathies and emotions for control, as well as physical violence. It explores how a government can be oppressive. Really, the whole series seems to explore how, when placed under certain conditions, a person's psychology can change. The end of the book came as a surprise to me, although in hindsight it was relatively clear what would happen. I can't wait to finish this trilogy.
