Damn. It's been a month since I last posted to LJ. It's probably been a few weeks since I've even looked at my friends page (NSAL?). I know, I know. Sick and sad.
So anyway, I'm at "work", meaning they are still in business, which is good. I started getting paychecks again, and they aren't bouncing or anything (what do you mean wait until Wednesday to deposit this?), so that is good too! The data entry project is over, or at least I'm done with it. Since then, for the past few weeks, I've been hauling our (Operations Dept) shit from one side of the building to the other, and running network cable through the ceiling, and stuff like that. We were in this big phat playroom area, and now we're being pushed over into cubespace with the people who actually do work. Yuck. I think they're going to rent out that big room, or turn it into a soup kitchen for all of our newly unemployed, or something like that.
Oh, I put together a couple computers the other day. IBM Intellistations (the ones with the dual Pentium III mobos). I found that they have to have these "blanks" inserted if all of the RAM banks (rambus) aren't filled, which is lame. Then I screwed up a harddrive because the stupid Win 2k Advanced Server setup program crashed while I was deleting NTFS partitions on it, and no one had a simple boot disk with partition magic or even fdisk, so I went to unplug the drive (it was a secondary anyway) so I could finishing installing Win2k (the setup would crash at drive scan due to the hosed partition table[?]), and -oops!- ripped half of the power socket out. Well, those power plugs are difficult to remove on hard drives! It might have been fixable, but then I shredded the remainder of the socket trying to pull it out of the plug with my teeth (we can't afford pliers I guess). So, whatever.
Friday, I installed VNC on all of the servers as an NT Service. Very tedious. Today, I don't really have much on the agenda. I was supposed to migrate a script I wrote a few weeks ago (reporting information about our vpopmail users) from development to production, which was one SCP command, so I did that already. Now I am supposed to check out this reporting package for Big Brother from deadcat.net. Clearly, since I am typing in this box, it is not getting done. I guess I should go get some more coffee and then maybe look at that stuff.
By the way, I really wish I was in the park with a frisbee and someone who likes to toss around the frisbee (or perhaps an evil robot). Looks nice outside the window.
