So, we had some kind of Old Testament storm that huffed and puffed and blew Memphis halfway off the map. Thankfully, the power and cable was restored out same-day out here in Rich-Whiteyville(TM). Work was not so lucky. I didn't go in (of course, I don't get paid enough to risk my life getting to work), but the Memphis Networx location (read: production servers) are chugging away on generator power, and the Ridgeway Loop offices are power-less. Hopefully things will be up soon, since our Tivoli server (backups) is at the office. I will likely go to Memphis Networx tomorrow to help out with whatever we are arranging for the meantime. I won't let Mother Nature keep me from making my last paycheck as bountiful as it should be. In other The Last Dot-Com (TM) related news, the Cisco TAC sent my patch request back unanswered because bitchass Lotus Notes formatted it in HTML. I knew that would happen.
I got my car title transferred and re-registered on Monday, and so I installed the new license plate today. I guess I missed another opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream of having a vanity plate composed of nonsense characters that seem juuust meaningful enough to make people crazy trying to figure out what it stands for. (e.g.: "PNTLSTC") I also did some tinkering with my IRA and picked up some sushi before getting to work. I had a lousy foosball day, probably because I was operating on three hours of sleep. Sandra Collins and Paul Oakenfold were at the Hard Rock Cafe that evening but I was too tired / broke to go see them. I woke up just in time for the tornad^H^H^H^H^H^H"straight-line winds" to come through and knock out the power. Since I spent most of the day in bed, I am wide awake and it is 3AM.
Tomorrow afternoon I will probably go skating with Warren and Sean. Sean said he'd give me his extra copy of the complex analysis book, so hopefully he will bring it. I'd look up the title / author for this entry but it seems that the CBU webserver is down, go figure. Hopefully the storm didn't make too big of a mess on campus.
Things to do before I move:
- Pick up my allergy medecine. 7/28
- Get my own car insurance policy. 7/27
- Get renter's insurance. 7/27
- Take my car in to get the tires rotated and balanced (whatever that means). 7/29
- Go through some portable furniture (shelving, etc.) to see if I want to take it.
- Pack up my books and stuff.
- Prepare The Last Dot-Com (TM) for life without me.
- Everything I forgot to mention.
- Prepare a template website for my TA duties.
The list of things I have done so far in preparation for school is impressive, especially for me.
I guess I should send Jennifer an email about the weather and the events in Iraq, and whatever is happening in Korea. She is stationed near the DMZ.
