Yesterday was one where nothing seemed to go right for me.
The first thing that sort of set the tone was I got an emergency call of nature (you know the kind which scream 'if you don't get to go right /now/, it'll be brown shorts time'). First I went to a bathroom 30 feet away from my office, it's occupied. So I go to the next one, over a 100 feet away, that's occupied as well. I make a desparate dash to the third one over 300 feet away, and find that the custodian is fixing the toliet. So I quickly try to make my way back to the first bathroom, and a user catchs me requesting that I help them solve a problem, and simply will not take 'Not right now, PLEASE!' for an answer.
Then later, while I'm working on my debian system, I vaguely notice my eyes are being driven batty by the flicker on my screen. So I check the cables, the monitor and so on and note my video card settings are messed up somehow as the refresh seems to have been reset to 53Hz, and the type is generic (which it wasn't before). So I go into the config and correct everything and rebooted.
Unfortunately, the system now refuses to boot into the GUI. So I go and edit XF86Config-4 from cmdline ensuring everything has the correct settings, and I'm able to boot back into the GUI. But this time, my mouse isn't working. So I go back and review everything in XF86Config-4 again, and decide that one of the cfg lines for the mouse probably shouldn't have been uncommented and re-save the file. And the mouse works, but I have two cursors now... And that in a snapshot, is how my day went.
