An analogy
I just watched Simpsons season 17 ep 1. Holy crapsticks it was shit.
Imagine if you will, a man. This man during his 30s and 40s is the life of the party. He's hilariously funny and everyone wants to be around him. He's loved by all.
Then he gets to his 60s and 70s and he's still telling the same jokes and trying to cling to his youth. He's just not funny any more, but people still smile politely and secretly feel a little bit sorry for the man who has lost what he used to be. He doesn't realise he's lost his edge, but he can't understand why he's not getting the same reactions he used to.
The Simpsons is that man.
