In which Cecile stops by the infirmary to give Luca lunch, Hugo, Fred, and other people are discussed, healing progress is made, and Luca reveals that he believes Fred is not possessed, but acting of his own free will.
Cecile: *enters the infirmary carrying a cloth bundle, looking for Hugo but unable to find him*
Luca: *staring up at the ceiling, daydreaming about the battle he had with Fred*
Cecile: *walks over to the side of his bed and looks down curiously* ...? What are you doing?
Luca: ....Geez. You're here again, just when I started to enjoy myself. *sighs, and looks over at her* What is it?
Cecile: *frowns slightly* ...I'm sorry. I brought you lunch-I thought you might be hungry, and I'm willing to bet you're tired of infirmary food.
Luca: ....Tch. There you go again with the whole caring deal. Set the food down at the side and you can leave. *turns so his back is facing her*
Cecile: Ohhh, no you don't. You think this is some sort of game? An act? I find that offensive; I have always been sincere when dealing with you.
Luca: Yeah, yeah. Save it for Thomas... What did you come here for anyway? You're not leaving after dropping the food off.
Cecile: ....*sets the bundle on the table, then sits in a chair and stares expectantly* I will not leave until you eat.
Luca: I'm not hungry. *says in a very childish voice*
Cecile: I will feed you if I have to. *motherly tone* I'm not letting you sit here and waste away.
Luca: I don't want to eat! I'm not hungry! *pulls the covers over his head*
Cecile: *sighs and pulls the covers back down, messing his hair* If you do not take care of yourself, you will not get well again. Then what will you do?
Luca: Dammit! Watch the hair! *moves his arms up and tries to push her away* I don't want to eat. I don't want you here. I want to be alone so I can think. Go bother Thomas!
Cecile: *backs away slightly as he waves, then sits back down* Then I will wait until you are hungry. If something is bothering you, perhaps you'd like to talk about it?
Luca: NO! I ain't going to tell you what's bothering me, especially since it has to do with you! *sits up and crosses his arms*
Cecile: *blinks, partially surprised* ....You are acting rather childish right now, you know.
Luca: And you're being very annoying right now. I told you to leave!
Cecile: *folds her own arms in turn* I'm worried! And I've been worried all along! You probably do not remember...when I found you after your fight, but you were badly hurt.
Luca: Tch. ...It was nothing serious. You always make small things seem bigger than they seem. If you're so worried, why don't you go out and stop Fred yourself before another victim turns out like me?
Cecile: I promised not to go after Sir Fred. *her expression clouds* But it serious, and you must not remember if you think it was otherwise. was
Cecile: ...No matter. If you have forgotten, you have forgotten. You just must not forget to take care of yourself.
Luca: Tch... lectured once again. Even while in the sick bed.
Cecile: *looks down at her hands in her lap* ...
Luca: But you may be right. But this is also the way I am, and I can't change that over some lecture.
Cecile: *looks up and brightens slightly* I suppose that is true. But Luca, you forget, you have changed, if only a little bit!
Luca: Yeah... maybe I have. I've been hanging around you so much change was bound to happen, I guess.
Cecile: Me? Noooo, it has nothing to do with me. *smile* You made yourself change all on your own! Your friends are just here to help you along.
Luca: Name a friend other than yourself, Captain.
Cecile: *pauses, caught off-guard* ...Ah...Rody! Yes, Rody! And what about Sir Fred? Not now, of course, I mean the real Sir Fred.
Luca: I haven't spoken with Rody for a very long time, I doubt he considers me any kind of friend. And there ain't no 'real' sir Fred, he's the same person.
Cecile: *long pause* But I am still your friend, regardless of whether or not you are my subordinate.
Luca: I already said you were my friend, Captain.
Cecile: Then we're on the same page. Good! *beams* ....So will you eat now?
Luca: ..... I'm still not hungry
Cecile: *sighs and stands up, fixing his pillows* Then will you at least eat it later? You know, I have not found anyone to fill in for you while you're here. What will I do if you starve?
Luca: I promise to eat later. .... If it makes you happy, anyway, but didn't Hugo want to take over for me while I was out? Tch.
Cecile: *looks down incredulously* The infirmary is packed! Sir Hugo cannot leave! Besides, his arm is still in a cast. I will just work extra hard until you return.
Luca: Why do you always insist that you have to work harder and harder? Go force one of the other guys around here to take your place for awhile, and mine. Like that stupid pirate, or the kid who has a fetish for dragons.
Cecile: Because I am the commander of the guards, and because I love my job. And because today is my father's birthday.
Luca: ....Then why don't you relax on your father's birthday? You work all the time. It ain't healthy, and even I should know that.
Luca: Take your own advice!
Cecile: *grins secretively* But I AM relaxing. I have not patrolled at all today. So there! What do you have to say to that?
Luca: ....
Luca: It's about time.
Cecile: *starts to say something, but turns pink* It is not permanent. Only for the day.
Luca: Tch. You should probably look into making it more often, too.
Cecile: ... I like my schedule. When you are well again, we will see about adjusting it.
Cecile: *stands up* If you are not hungry, then why don't you try walking again?
Luca: I've tried. I'm getting a little better at it, I can actually walk a bit on my own now.
Cecile: You can?! That's wonderful!! Then you must have been practicing. Did you want to try now and see how far you can walk?
Luca: *moves the sheets to the side and starts to stand up. Slowly, he begins to walk towards Cecile who's sitting down near his bed*
Cecile: *nods and watches attentively in case he falls* You've improved since last time!
Luca: *stops in front of Cecile and stands there, a bit prideful* Yeah, yeah. Improved, I guess.
Cecile: You guess?? I think it's spectacular! *stands up and remembers how short she is in comparison* I am proud you are healing so well. We should tell Sir Hugo!
Luca: No, YOU should tell Hugo. I'm not going anywhere, unless it's to find Fred.
Cecile: Then I will tell Sir Hugo for you. *turns him around to guide him back to the infirmary bed* And you are not going anywhere at all, so far as I am concerned.
Luca: Wait, why is it so important that Hugo should know?! *gets pushed back towards his bed* Hey, dammit, stop!
Cecile: *feels slightly guilty, but decides if she had hesitated he'd have fallen* Because Sir Hugo is the one who stitched you up, and he should know how his patients are doing. Why else?
Luca: ...I understand what you're saying, but I did not know he was a doctor.
Luca: I thought he was just being nice.
Cecile: He is not a doctor, that much is true. And he took care of you because he was being nice and because I asked him to.
Luca: Because you asked him to..
Cecile: *nods* Exactly.
Cecile: I was worried, actually, that no one would...your reputation here is not exactly flawless, and I feared that would work against you.
Luca: Hugo probably would not have aided me had you not asked.
Cecile: ...I don't know about that.
Cecile: Sir Hugo has a good heart. You must have more faith in him.
Luca: Fred apparently had a good heart, and now look at him.
Cecile: You are confused; Sir Fred is not himself right now! He is possessed. *saddens* ..It is not his own doing.
Luca: I don't believe in being possessed. What Fred is doing is his own doing, and he knows this.
Cecile: How could you say that? ...No, I should not blame you. You have been in here too long to have heard what people have said and see what has happened.
Luca: Everyone has a dark side, some are just better at hiding it.
Cecile: Believe what you will. But when Sir Fred has been cured, I will bring him straight away to visit you, and you will understand then.
Luca: *grin* Please, do that.
Cecile: I will, but you should listen to his side of the story before making judgment first. *nods*
Luca: I'll listen. And then I'll SHOW him my side of the story.
Cecile: ... *kneels down at eye-level and looks at him seriously* Do you honestly remember what happened after you fought him?
Luca: No. But that doesn't matter, now does it?
Cecile: It does matter!!! I...I thought you had died. I don't want that to happen again. I don't want that to happen to you or anyone else, including Sir Fred.
Luca: ....
Luca: People come and go. Bah, I'm not going to lecture you.
Luca: Worry about the safety of yourself and Thomas.
Cecile: But there will always be one Luca, one Sir Fred, one Thomas, one of me, and so on. It does not matter if they come and go; what matters is keeping the people close to you safe.
Luca: ...I'm close to you?
Cecile: Of course! Why, you're my assistant, are you not? And did we not just confirm earlier that we're friends too?
Luca: ....I am. Gah! I ain't gonna die anytime soon, and I don't plan on killing Fred, okay?
Cecile: *beams with overwhelming relief and takes his hand* Promise?
Luca: ...?! Yes, YES I promise. What're you doing?!
Cecile: *looks at him as though he just asked the most ridiculous question on earth* Shaking on it, or pinky swearing, or whatever it is you're most comfortable with.
Luca:.... Shaking on it is fine.
Cecile: Okay then!! *shakes his hand, but slows after a moment, remembering he's still injured*
Luca: *shakes her hand, but doesn't tighten his grip because his hands are still injured*
Cecile: *gently releases his hand after the deal is sealed* I feel so much better now!
Luca: That's good, I guess. Though you always feel great.
Cecile: No, I do not. In fact, I've been feeling bad lately. I'm sorry about offending you the other day, and it has been bothering me since.
Luca: Tch... whatever, I'm over it. You're my captain, anyway.
Luca: I can't stay mad at you.
Cecile: That is a relief. And, if it makes you feel better, I am not upset with you anymore either.
Luca: I guess it makes me feel a little better.
Luca: But you're always upset with me.
Luca: You'll get upset again over something I do.
Cecile: I'm not upset with you right now. And you have not done anything today that would make me upset, at least, I don't think so.
Luca: I hope you won't get upset then that the food you brought me is probably cold by now.
Cecile: *grins* You never opened the cloth, so you wouldn't know. I brought you a sandwich! So you can eat it anytime. ...I had a feeling you'd probably reject it at first.
Luca: Aren't you smart....
Cecile: Ehe...a lucky guess is more like it.
Luca: You're trying to make me eat healthy too, I bet. Sandwiches are good for you and probably help me heal faster.
Cecile: *nods again* That's right! How did you know?
Luca: ....Lucky guess.
Cecile: Hehe. *grins*
Cecile: I suppose I should leave you to eat now. Have you been practicing your writing for your hand? I can bring you more paper.
Luca: Tch. I knew I was forgetting something. I've got enough paper, but maybe a better pencil would help.
Cecile: Hold on. *searches her skirt pocket and finds an orange pencil, handing it to him* I usually write in pen, but I like to carry a spare.
Luca: Yeah, whatever works. *takes the pencil and places it on the table near some paper*
Cecile: Try to write often, and write about happy things! That will help you feel better inside, while writing will help your hand feel better.
Luca: I'm not writing about happy things! What if someone gets ahold of what I wrote?
Cecile: *blinks* I don't see why that would bother you.
Cecile: If you have happy things to say, they should make others happy if they hear them..or read them, whichever.
Luca: You know people would make fun of me because of that.
Cecile: They have no right to. But if you are that embarrassed, I suppose you can scratch whatever you write out afterwards if you think of it. *rubs her nose*
Luca: Nah. I'll just write what's on my mind, like finding Fred. Or killing Thomas.
Cecile: ..... Why would you want to kill Thomas? You're joking, right?
Luca: That's surprising. I had actually expected you to freak out, but yes I am joking.
Cecile: You did. *flusters* I thought..I thought you were past all that. And you have no reason to hate him anymore, now that you are a guard.
Luca: I said I was joking. Geez. Some people take things too seriously around here!
Cecile: Death is a serious thing. Why do you think I worried about you when you were hurt?
Luca: I got it, I got it. I'm sorry.
Luca: Don't get so mad, Captain.
Cecile: I'm not mad. I'm just relieved. ...Don't scare me like that again.
Luca: You really think I'm going to kill Thomas? I ain't gonna do something like that yet. 'Sides, he's got you to protect him.
Cecile: Well...you threatened him so much in the past. And you threatened me, if you remember. *half-smile* Like that other time I tried to bring you lunch?
Luca: ...Don't remind me.
Cecile: I made sure this sandwich was not ham.
Luca: Is it turkey?
Cecile: Chicken, actually. With lettuce. Greens make you strong!
Luca: Really... well, why didn't I just start eating sandwiches to begin with?
Cecile: That is a good question. *tilts her head* It's not too late to start, right?
Luca: Uh... It's never too late to start anything.
Cecile: That's the spirit!! *stands straight, her arms akimbo* Well then, is there anything else I can do for you?
Luca: Send Hervey my regards.
Cecile: Regards? Regards for what?
Cecile: *presses her hands together* I know! Instead of that, why not just write him a letter?? You have the material!
Luca: And you can give it to him.
Cecile: That's right! You can write letters to him and Juan and Thomas and me and Sir Hugo!
Luca: The hell would I be writing to Juan and Thomas, and even Hugo for?
Cecile: Well, Juan is....*pauses, obviously without an answer, and continues* Thomas is the castle master, and Sir Hugo took care of you.
Luca: I'll think about it.
Cecile: You will? I can write you letters too if you'd like. Then you'll have something to read.
Luca: It'll give me something to do at least.
Cecile: *smiles* That's good. Keep your mind busy!
Luca: Always looking out for me.
Cecile: Of course. *simple nod*
Luca: *awkward silence*
Cecile: *does not feel awkward in the least, but slowly senses his unease* Is there anything else you needed before I leave you to write and eat?
Luca: A kiss.
Cecile: *stares at him for a long moment and grows bright red* E-e-excuse me?
Luca: I'm just kidding, mother. You can leave and I'll eat your sandwich.
Cecile: *pauses, as if in thought, then takes his bandaged hand and gives it a slight kiss* You're too old to be my son, silly. Just make sure to eat all of it.
Luca: *shocked, but remains calm* ....Yes, moth--- Captain.
Cecile: *sternly* I will be able to tell if you don't. *stands* The next time I visit, I will take your letters for Sir Hervey and anyone else.
Luca: Yeah. Thanks. But don't peek at what I write, you got that?
Cecile: You have my word. *salutes* On my honor as commander of the guards and a friend.
Luca: Good. That's good.
Cecile: *gives a quick wave and exits cheerfully*
Luca: *raises his hand up to wave but realizes she had already left*
