Bird troubles

My housemate so owes me a pint.

I actually managed to get up early this morning, which is a minor miracle in itself. The plan was to leave the house early as well, meaning that I might actually get to work on time rather than at the usual 9:05. But no, it was not to be.

The last thing I did just before leaving the house was go into the bathroom... whereupon I heard a noise. At first I thought it was my other housemate opening her door, but there were no corresponding footsteps and the noise was soon heard again. So, I stopped and listened again. It sounded a bit like it was coming from above me, and it sounded suspiciously like there was a bird in the roof somewhere.

Out of curiousity (I still had a couple of minutes before I had to leave) I went out into the garden to have a look to see if I could see where the bird had got in. To my dismay, I discovered that my housemate's window had been left open since Saturday morning (when he went away for the weekend). Apart from the fact that this screams "burgle me" and would invalidate the insurance, it was even more annoying for the fact that I could see a bird's head bobbing up and down inside the room. It promptly flapped its wings and attempted to fly through the closed part of the window, making the exact same noise that I had heard before.

Dammit.

I trudge upstairs, go into his room, and proceed to spend ten minutes trying to herd this huge pigeon towards the open window so that it can get out, whilst trying to prevent it moving further into the room, scratching me or crapping on me, or doing itself some damage against the window or curtain. I ended up having to hold the curtain around it (so that it couldn't get into the room) and trying to gradually move it towards the open window. It was a good plan, aside from the fact that the bird was absolutely terrified by this point and went into a frenzy of flapping. Still, the bird finally got the idea, moved to the open window, and flew off.

Not only did this make me late anyway, but the next bus was ten minutes late as well - so despite getting up earlier than usual, I didn't manage to get into work until gone 9:30.

Like I said, my housemate owes me a pint. And he can clean the birdcrap off his windowsill himself.
