---

She always felt so alive when she was killing. A stake in her hand, a thrust, a kick and a punch. Kicking ass and taking names, that was Faith Lehane's way. And she was good at what she did. The best, really.

Until B came along.

Oh, it burned her, not being the only Slayer. It was her identity for so long that she started to believe that no one else could or should ever be what was rightfully hers - the mantle of Girl Who Saves the World. So when Buffy and all her little friends stumbled their way towards life, Faith was out there, doing what she did, better than anyone else.

B wasn't so bad. She was a little naive, such a strange quality in a girl who stuck pointy things in undead people every night, but she was a good egg. Not as good as Faith, of course, but not bad.

It was hell on earth manifest in Sunnydale, watching the First come around and wreak havoc on this town, these people that Faith called "friends" even if she didn't want to admit that she had them. Because having friends was a weakness, and Faith wasn't weak, not by a long shot.

Still... having something - someone? - to fight for? It was worth it all. Faith knew, deep down, that B would be her cornerstone, her root system.

She would be her salvation.
