“Ryeowook. I’m breaking up with you.” Kyuhyun said in a serious tone.
Kyuhyun and Ryeowook have been together for about 2 years already, their relationship started ever since they were in middle school. Being classmates ever since elementary school, their bond has been very strong. Kyuhyun, being the one who always rescues Ryeowook from the bullies, the one who would help Ryeowook to take the blame if he (RW) was in trouble, and basically, being there with Ryeowook whenever he was feeling miserable. It was until the the last day of middle school that Ryeowook confessed to Kyuhyun and have been together ever since. They stuck together all day just like super glue and paper. Of course, with Ryeowook’s naïve personality, cute appearance and Kyuhyun’ handsome features along with his manly ways, many people tried to break them up, wanting either one of them for themselves. (you get what I mean right? >D) But, nevertheless, their love was unbreakable. Ryeowook only loved Kyuhyun and Kyuhyun only loved Ryeowook.
“Kyu! It’s not April Fools’ today!” Ryeowook said, laughing it off.
High school started. Kyuhyun often missed school lessons and when Ryeowook asked him what happened, he would just say that he had to attend seminars last minute of he was feeling unwell. Ryeowook would just accept his reasons as he knew that Kyuhyun had recently taken an extra course. On days like these, Ryeowook would spend his time calling Kyuhyun during his breaktime at the roof of the school while munching on Kyuhyun’s favourite crackers that were sold in the school cafeteria. But Kyuhyun never picked up. Ryeowook didn’t really bother as he would just think that Kyuhyun was busy, reverting back to his joyful self when he went back to class.
“No, Wookie, I’m serious.” Kyuhyun said.
It was their 1000 days anniversary that day. Kyuhyun had asked Ryeowook out for dinner at the restaurant where they would celebrate every 100 days without fail. It was their 1000 days anniversary and it was supposed to be even more special. But of course, Ryeowook didn’t know what was in store for him. They had already finished their dinner, waiting for the waiter to settle the bill when Kyuhyun initiated the breakup. Ryeowook could feel a pang of sadness in his heart.
“Okay…… Can I know why?” Ryeowook said, as he gulped a mouth of air, holding back his tears.
“I … I don’t think we match. I …” Kyuhyun said, his voice trembling.
“Okay then…” Ryeowook said softly, hands wiping off the tears from his eyes. He stood up, preparing to leave when Kyuhyun suddenly grabbed his hand.
“Friends still, okay? I’ll still be looking after you like your guardian angel. I promise.” Kyuhyun said. Ryeowook nodded his head, shaking Kyuhyun’s hand away and quickly walked out of the restaurant, into the streets. It was dark and Ryeowook was thankful for it. No one would be able to see his tears. Suddenly, a warm pair of hands hugged him from behind. “One last hug.” The low voice said into Ryeowook’s ear. Ryeowook pried open the fingers and ran away, into the darkness, Kyuhyun standing alone under the dark sky as he watched Ryeowook ran.

“So what’s the special occasion? It’s been ages since you called me.” Kibum said, jumping off from his motorcycle.
Kibum was Ryeowook’s other friend. He was the friend that whenever Ryeowook had problems, he would confide with him. No one really knew they were friends, since they attended different schools and they barely talked about each other in others’ presence. They got to know each other during summer camp way back during their elementary school days, when they were cabin mates. Kibum, being the mischievous one, was always into trouble and that got Ryeowook into trouble too. Since, well, they were cabin mates…

this. they're hanging their legs off the bridge)
Ryeowook turned his head and smiled. “Here,” Ryeowook threw a can to Kibum. “Sit down with me…” he said, patted to the space beside him, and continued staring into the sea, that was lighted by the moon. “something wrong?” Kibum asked as he made himself comfortable on the cement pillar. “kyu broke up with me…” Ryeowook said “he said we didn’t match and blablabla. Seriously?! After 2 and a half years!” He threw the empty can into the sea angrily. Kibum nodded his head, mouth forming an ‘o’ shape. “well… he must have his reasons for doing that.” Kibum said. “don’t worry, it’s just a relationship. You still have me! Haha.” Ryeowook snorted. “You don’t like me?” Kibum said jokingly. “Stop it before you end up in the sea.” The other said with a grin. That night, they ended up catching up on each other’s lives till the sky turned from dark blue to a bright orange.

After that night, Kyuhyun did not turn up in school at all. Ryeowook’s friends didn’t dare to ask what happened between him and Kyuhyun, nor did they ask about Kyuhyun’s whereabouts. But they knew for sure that there was something unusual going on with the two of them. Ryeowook didn’t contact Kyuhyun either. He was pretty relieved when he found out that Kyuhyun wasn’t in school after day. He wanted to get Kyuhyun out of his life as fast as possible. And to accomplish that goal, he deleted his phone number, every single photo that they took together, and basically, everything that made him remember Kyuhyun. He only couldn’t bring himself to delete Kyuhyun on his buddy list from his instant messanger. He knew that he would be able to find Kyuhyun there at any circumstances. Even when his house was on fire, Kyuhyun would always be available.
Time flew by quick. Ryeowook graduated from high school and got himself a place in one of the most prestigious music universities in Seoul, majoring in composing. He made new friends but didn’t get into any relationships until he met Yesung. Yesung was a student in the vocal department, though not one of the best looking ones among the rest, his voice sure charms many. The composing and vocal departments were being put together and students in the composing department had to compose a song for the students in the vocal department to sing. (you get it right?) Ryeowook got paired up together with Yesung for that particular project and well, you can say that sparks flew and they got together a few months after that.
One day, Ryeowook signed onto his instant messanger and Kyuhyun started a conversation with him. It was the first time they talked after they broke up many years ago.
Kyuhyun: Break up with that Yesung.
Ryeowook: What? Are you jealous?
Kyuhyun: No, I’m serious… Break up with him… he’s cheating on you.
Ryeowook: Who are you to tell me what to do after deciding to break all ties with me.
Kyuhyun: Ryeowook… please… listen to me… :(
Ryeowook: Ugh, whatever.
Stupid Kyuhyun! Ryeowook thought to himself. He must be jealous that I’m with Yesung now. With that, he closed his instant messenger with much anger. That matter was soon forgotten and stored at the back of his head.
A few weeks later, when Ryeowook went to the restroom in the middle of a class (with permission of course), he saw Yesung making out with another guy at the restroom. Yesung was planting kisses all over the other’s face, hands flying around at unappropriate places. Horrified, Ryeowook grabbed Yesung by the collar and gave him a slap across his face. He ran out of the restroom immediately with Yesung chasing after him. “Ryeowook! Wait! I can explain!” Yesung said as he tried to run and confront Ryeowook. He failed though, since Ryeowook ran as fast as lightning and up the rooftop, locking the door that accessed to the roof. Strangely though, Ryeowook didn’t feel that much pain compared to when Kyuhyun broke up with him. Even though Kyuhyun wasn’t making out with a person he didn’t know.
That night, he turned on his instant messenger and proceeded to thank Kyuhyun.
Ryeowook: heyy… thanks. :)
Kyuhyun: Whatever for?
Ryeowook: that yesung was cheating on me.
Kyuhyun: Oh. That. You had to learn it the hard way hadn’t you.
Ryeowook: haha… I guess. Thanks really. :D
Kyuhyun: No problem. ^^
Ryeowook turned off his computer and headed to bed without any feelings about that day’s happenings. The next day, Yesung approached him and apologized, wanting to get back together. Ryeowook declined and didn’t get into any more relationships the rest of the time he was in school.

Ryeowook graduated and signed a contract as a composer of a music label. He earned himself a name in the composing world and many celebrities wanted him to compose music for their albums. He agreed to most of their offers, churning out many different genres of music that sent the entire nation humming to it. It was just another day at the recording studio with Ryeowook racking his brains to write the perfect melody for solo singer, Lee Sungmin. Bored of trying to think of something that wasn’t going to be easy, he turned on his computer, planning to browse the internet for some inspirations. As soon as his computer booted up, Kyuhyun started a conversation.
Kyuhyun: Hey, be careful while taking the subway today.
Ryeowook: eh? Why?
Kyuhyun: there’s a pervert going around and you know… be careful.
Ryeowook: okay…
Kyuhyun: If he does anything to you, just step on his feet or something.
Ryeowook: yes grandpa kyu, I got it :)
With that, Kyuhyun went offline and that was probably the first time Ryeowook ever seen Kyuhyun appearing offline.
True enough, Ryeowook met with a pervert on the subway. Following Kyuhyun’s instructions, or rather, advices, he managed to stop the pervert from proceeding onto more explicit acts.
Chats with Kyuhyun became more often after that incident, and everytime, it would be Kyuhyun giving advices to Ryeowook to avoid certain places for his safety. Once, even managing to safe Ryeowook’s life by telling him to avoid walking by this particular lane below a house as there was a couple that was fighting and somehow, a flower pot was knocked over. Luckily that didn’t kill anyone, but if Ryeowook was to walk by that way, it would have killed him at exactly that point of time.
Ryeowook soon got curious about how Kyuhyun was doing, so he decided to surprise him by visiting his house. As soon as he reached Kyuhyun’s house, he knocked on the door. There was no one. He tried the door and it was unlocked. Walking inside, the entire place was covered with white cloths. The floor was covered with a thick layer of dust. This was strange to Ryeowook, given that the entire scene meant that no one was living there. (people usually covered things with white cloth if there’s no one living there) He walked around and at the kitchen table, he found a folder labeled “Cho Kyuhyun”. He opened and read it.
suffering from leukemia, last stage. Not very likely to survive.
Ryeowook could feel the tears brimming up in his eyes. It all made sense now. Why Kyuhyun wanted the break up. Even though Kyuhyun left the world, he still wanted to protect Ryeowook from everything else in the world like he used to. He knew it would hurt Ryeowook too much if he(wook) knew the truth, thus he decided that, leaving him was the best decision.
Ryeowook quickly turned on his laptop that he brought along with him everywhere with him on the table. He had to ask what was happening. Kyuhyun initiated a conversation with him the moment his computer was done setting up.
Kyuhyun: So… you know what happened now I guess… Then, it’s time I have to leave. I have done my part in protecting you and I guess it’s time for another person to take my place. Goodbye Ryeowookie, this is the last time I’ll be talking to you. Don’t cry… it’ll make me sad too. :( I love you.
-Kyuhyun is offline-
“I love you too…” Ryeowook said softly, letting the tears stream down his cheeks.
