“Umma! Let me help you wash the dishes!” That was unusual coming from Kyuhyun. What does that naughty boy want this time? A hand pushed me away from the sink and started doing the dishes. Approximately 45minutes ago, I was having dinner with my lovely family. My husband, Kangin, had returned from work while I was setting up the table for dinner. Suddenly, my son, Kyuhyun, helped me set up the table. That was rather surprising since he usually coops up in his room playing video games. He even grumbles a lot when I call him down for dinner. “Umma! Where do I put the plates?” Kyuhyun asked. “Over there.” I pointed to the dish rank beside the sink with my soapy hands. “Okay.” He said. After placing all the dishes onto the dish rack, he came over, said “I love you umma”, hugged me and then rushed up to his room, slamming the door shut. That was a surprise. Am I dreaming?
The next morning, the knocks on the door awoken me. “Come in,” I said as I checked the clock. 6AM. Why is he awake at 6AM. He even yells at me when I have to wake him up for school at 6AM. And now, on a holiday, he’s awake at 6AM! That boy must be up to no good! I must be cautious… “Appa! Umma! I made breakfast! Come down and eat!” Kyuhyun said enthusiastically. The smell of sausages whiffed into my nose. By now, Kangin had already woken up and lumbered out of the room just like a bear. I followed suite and when I went into the kitchen, Kangin was already wolfing down the food. “Come on umma~ Go eat the food I prepared~” Kyuhyun sand and smiled. I was nudged onto my chair. There was a plate in front of me with 2 eggs and a sausage which formed a smiley face. I took a small bite of the sausage cautiously. The previous time he cooked, he added too much pepper and I got a sore throat for a week. Hey, it didn’t taste that bad this time. I smiled to myself. My little boy has grown up I guess. I continued eating while Kyuhyun cooked more for Kangin.
For the next few days, Kyuhyun had a 360degree change in his usual attitude. He was really helpful and listened to whatever I said. When I was mopping the floor, he would offer to help me do so. When I went grocery shopping, he would come along and helped me carry bags. That was a huge surprise as he would complain when I asked him to carry a bag of sponge. That few days was a bliss to me as I rarely had to do a lot of things now that Kyuhyun is helping me.
“Is it okay Umma?” Kyuhyun was massaging my shoulders while I sat comfortably on the sofa. “Yes it is.” I said, almost dozing off the sleep. “Umma…” Kyuhyun started. “Yes?” I answered. “Can you buy me the new video game that just got released last week?” My eyes shot opened and I turned around to face him. “WHAT?!” I screamed. Kyuhyun saw the huge reaction in me and quickly ran up to his room, leaving me there alone.
Just when I thought my little boy was growing up.
