Fun Stuff(s)

today in chinatown (basically two blocks had chinese stores) there was the lunar new year parade. it was pretty fun with all the people and fire crackers. i bought a one dollar bill from the bureau of engraving and printing and it is considered lucky money because there are four 8's on the serial number consecutively. i bought one dollar worth of lotto (it's powerball over here) and it's over 65 million. i hope i win! i also saw the mayor of washington, dc and congressman david wu (d-oregon) and it was fun to celebrate in unity with the asian american community.

about 130 people from the center signed up to eat at minh's vietnamese restaurant. it was quite fun and entertaining because we sat with all white people. at first it was intimidating because i thought we had no similar interests but in the end i appreciated their company. one person was half korean and half white, it was interesting to talk to him because although his korean was somewhat broken, he knew the basic words and an unique fact to know that someone from the center was half korean, half white. the food was pretty delicious, i enjoyed the spring rolls a lot and we also had shrimp cakes. overall, i like vietnamese food because of it's fresh ingredients and no horrible after taste. while we were eating, it began to snow like crazy! everyone was anxious to play in the snow!

we went outside and since all of us were californians, it was a new experience. everyone was throwing snow balls, i attacked several socialists from my dorm (which was quite relieving), and seeing snow fall was quite a treat. after arriving at the center, a lot of people were still throwing snow balls at the terrace and they were at it for 1.5 hours at least! while they were outside, i had a hot cup of chocolate, with miniture marshmellows and about 1/2 a cup of milk. you just cannot appreciate hot chocolate unless you are in freezing temperatures while it is snowing.

many now wish that the government shuts down but i'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't. i am looking forward to touring the pentagon and see the mission of the military. well that's just a brief summary but i'll try and keep updating!
