This important conversation took place with all the gravitas due to it, via my Facebook update thread thingy (Tish =
theamazingtish):
Suzanne: I should probably organize my books, but they look so happy in their disorganized state and I don't want to ruin their fun. Have you paid attention to your books' feelings? They don't really want to be alphabetized. They want to be next to their friends.

but what if you accidentally put them next to an enemy? you are dashing their one chance at happiness by not organizing them.

Silly Tish, if they were by an enemy they would have found some way to extract themselves from such a situation. Books are not ninnies; they are very courageous and strong and amazing--though I suspect if Wuthering Heights were placed by another book it didn't like it might have a freak-fest spaz attack and we'd all be buried underneath the rubble of its mental breakdown. Thankfully I don't own Wuthering Heights!

Well they could be frenemies and don't want to switch places with another book because they don't want to be the talk of the...bookcase. They're thinking of their families.

Then they should make their plight known with all discreteness and grace to their lord and master (i.e. me). If they're not able to communicate their needs adequately then I have no qualms about letting them suffer in silence! They should man up or accept their circumstances and realize it is Up To Them To Change Their Lives.

I concede. You should know, though, that not all of us are able to pull ourselves up by the bootstraps! Should we be blamed for our different personalities?

Yes. Yes, you should be.
