I used to have very long hair, halfway down my back. One of the things I liked best about it was that, in the event of some sort of time travel where I was vaulted back to Olden Days, I would fit right in with the rest of the females with long hair! It just seemed sensible to keep it long.
(I eventually cut it, and now, many haircuts later, it's back down to just below shoulder-length. Contemplating growing out again. It never hurts to be Ready For Anything.)
I also really love oatmeal - not because of its taste, which is acceptable, but because it lets me imagine that I'm eating some sort of nondescript mush from a fantasy novel. It also works with grits and cream of wheat. I happily eat my bowl of mush and I am having an adventure in my mind with strange and magical folks who must send me on a mission, abandoning everything familiar to me, to save the world from the evil overlord, who is never so wholesome as to eat mush. That will be his downfall.
It's the same thing with hard cheese and bread/crackers. There I am, on the trail to the world's redemption. My journey is fraught with peril, and I only have a moment to rest, but I take this time to re-energize with cheese and some sort of carbohydrate.
And perhaps I even have some red wine to make it all even more believable. I'm willing to insert red wine into any meal in order to transport me to the world of fiction - and this time it'd work for fantasy genre or romance genre or historical fiction, so everyone wins! The lengths I'll go to facilitate my imagination! There I am, off to find some mythical object or something trite like that, and water is scarce, but lo: for I have kept a flask of red wine, and my thirst will be quenched this day.
So what sends you into fictionland? If I'm crazy, I'm taking you all with me.
