Maybe I just don't like people!

Older woman says something to me outside the mall today. I know because her lips are moving. I take my headphone earbud out of one of the ears. "I'm sorry?"

"It's raining," she says.

No shit, I think. I take the other earbud out of the other ear, and I quickly evaluate her in a glance.

"Hope it doesn't start coming down too hard," she adds, now that she feels she has my full attention.

You interrupted my music to talk to me about the fucking weather? I don't know you. You don't know me. Why this, then? "Mmhmm."

I put my earbuds back in and turn away from her. Hopefully she got the picture, but who knows? Not really me; I wouldn't have been able to hear her if she continued talking. Music.

If you haven't caught on, I dislike talking to strangers. :P

So I signed up for the lj community for permanent account users.

A fair few of the new people are delightfully introducing themselves, each in their own post.

Dude. Thousands of people just became permanent members in the last couple days. Over five hundred people just signed up for this community in that time; a community with nearly a thousand members.

I was tempted to post my own friendly 'hi, I'm here! I'm new!' post. In it, I could write something like:

I don't want to hear about you or your five hundred giddy friends. I don't need to read about where you live, what your jobs and interests are or that your passion in this life is never getting laid EVER, apparently. I joined this community so I could be updated on permanent account information. Period. You, my fellow members, do not have as interesting of lives as you think you have. No one wants to know - or if some souls do, I certainly don't, and I value my opinion over theirs. Let them friend you, take your rambling about your inconsequential lives to your own lj where it belongs and STFU please while you're here. :)

Edit: Thankfully, one of the mods came in while I was writing this post and deleted the welcome intro posts and pointed them to *one* post where they can spam to their life's delight. Yay for moderation. :D

Edit again: No, of course I wouldn't actually post that. :P You are silly.

lj, judging strangers, we're not entirely sociable, internet
