The English Patient

I just watched The English Patient, and I was rather disappointed. I had been told for years how wonderful a film it was. I found it absolutely pointless. It was riddled with characters for whom I just didn't care, pacing that was abominably slow and so many plotlines packed into its six-hour run (it wasn't six hours? Have you seen the Seinfeld episode about how everyone else loves that film except for Elaine? Classic.

Oh...you thought the pacing was good on Titanic? I felt like screaming at the screen, "It took less time for it to sink in real life! GET ON WITH IT!"

Read the book. It's much better. The author is Michael? Ondaatje. I think. Something like that. I think I got the last name sort of right, anyway.

I've *never* understood what made The English Patient laudable for so many people. I watched it one time and came to nearly the exact same conclusion as you. It was just simply boring and pointless, to me.
