One of my bestest buds got married on Sunday. It was honestly one of the most memorable weekends I've had in my life - in a good way, despite being so busy.
At one point late in the evening, I looked around at the folks who were dancing with me. Meg, Jen, Bryce and Mike were all there, and I had Vicki represented on a stick. We were all dancing in a circle, late on a Sunday night, to a ridiculously cheesy song. I had a flashback to 1st period Calculus class, senior year, when we all sat next to each other. Bryce and I would share X Files recaps; Vicki and I would write seriously long notes to each other about nothing and everything; Mike and Jen say they weren't in love then but I think they totally were and just didn't know it; Meg and Jen would talk about Sailor Moon and Meg's notebook doodles were better than anything I could have ever attempted to draw.
And here I was, 10+ years later, dancing and celebrating with them. It was an odd moment of clarity, because I realized that these are the most important people - the ones who stick with you no matter what. One phase of my life has ended, but these are the people who will be there with me for the next one. And the one after that. I'm sure I'll be dancing in some form with these same people 10 years from now, and 10 years from then, and so on.
Pretty darn cool.
Of course, we also danced Gangnam Style, and that was just ridiculous. :)
