Every time I hear someone bitch about how high our taxes are, I just want to point them to the awesomeness of the library system. There's a lot of fucked up things our government does, but the library is just ... neat!
I just found out that they offer free continuing education courses online, and all you need is your library card. They aren't college accredited or anything, but they are recognized by the organization that standardizes continuing education/training for industry. You go at your own pace online and there are actual instructors that can communicate with you via email. You just have to finish each course within 6 months. And it's free!
How cool is that?!
I think I'll take a cooking class. Or maybe bone up on my Excel skills - I hate Excel with a passion, so maybe if I learned to use it properly I wouldn't :) Or maybe a business/finance class? Psychology? Or art!
I love Pima Community College because I think they do a really good service for the community in offering credit classes like these, but the cost is a barrier. I'd love to take these classes, but can't necessarily shell out a couple hundred bucks every time I decide on a whim to take one.
So yeah, libraries = great.
