Despite seemingly hitting the critical mass as far as mainstream involvement goes (I blame reddit), the novelty of memes and lolcows kinda wears off after a while (speaking of which Tristan Peterson unblocked me :3) and all you're left with is this utilitarian timesink for pictures of your food and ~life updates~. I pounce on any opportunity to think out loud on someone's facebook status or whatever and honestly, I wish more people would come back to LJ to rant their shit (or perhaps I just don't follow them) because all the stuff on facebook doesn't require a second thought. The culture of facebook has become some circulation of ideas where it's appropriate to laugh at something, maybe even share it but any intellectual dismantling of some witty statement or whatever is sooner met with "oh you" than any thought of argumentative engagement or even "wow, I hadn't thought of it like that". People ridicule the whole "hang on, someone is wrong on the internet" thing but arguing is an important part of personal and cultural development.
I think it's connected. Notice that really dumb fucks use the image meme fan pages to show that they are of [insert political/cultural movement here] while never really saying anything for themselves. You then go and try to deconstruct their oh-so witty image memes and you get to look like like a pedantic twat for it because a paragraph becomes an essay against a image and a soundbyte.
And you're right that the shit people talk about on Facebook now DOES seem like a rerun. Honestly... human dialogue is a bit behind on the Facebook front. We're not the hipsters into a music scene before anybody else. But we most likely did have these stupid pointless arguments on LJ and forums before every NORP discovered they could vent their opinion on the internet.
I'll try and liven LJ up a bit more. I know that I don't actually post about my actual life on LJ. But it still affects my output on LJ. That and sleep deprivation and caffeine of which I am in abundance in.
