Gay Pride 2008 - A Mess Worse Than Amy Winehouse Can Ever Dish Out

Jun 30, 2008 16:57

It seems that I couldn't have asked for a better parade... if the events on Sunday didn't lead to people leaving early and if the rain decided to go away... much less if the Buck's bartender wouldn't have been an asshole. From what I was told, the show went on. The sun was shining, it wasn't humid like last year, and I honestly believed we'd be in a good position to enjoy the fun. Of course, stupid me decided to hang out in front of Bucks. Big mistake.

I can understand fire code restrictions, which is why I stood on the side and didn't block the entrance. But come on, the bartender pushes EVERYONE off the stairs during the parade and acts like a jerk about it to me when I was just taking pictures, yet everyone else can stand on the stairs and drink a cup of booze? Sorry, but I refuse to patronize Buck's now.

And hell, my view from before was at least decent...

Afterward, thanks to that fucking bartender, it was disastrous, so me and Jeff decided to go look for another spot. We find one, oddly, in front of Side Track...

It's quite a beautiful day outside. Yeah, Jeff was sunburning, but everyone was having fun... But then one hour later, this happens...

Add this, and the fact the parade wasn't marching for about 30 minutes due to an "accident" as Mike (DG Cub) told me, which happened somewhere on the route. The total at the end is "disastrous".

Yeah... Not nice. So the people freak out like Godzilla was gonna eat em and head on home. It was 2 pm by then. At that time, only 1/3 of the parade was completed. How did I know? Jeff and I decided to walk south on Halsted to see what else was remaining, plus, I wanted to see how the GLB Float was going to turn out, as after all, I was debating on whether to be on the float or not... I declined to be on, simply because Jeff just didn't know how to get around Chicago well enough. Meh, its no matter, since I invited him up, anyways.

Could things get any worse? The answer? Thank God it didn't.

Anyways, back to the fun and disaster that is "Gay Pride 2008".

Below is a picture of the Chicago 2016 Olympic Bid. We all know how I am very giddy about this. I thought I'd give them the props they deserve. Problem was, this was also at the intersection of Clark and Halsted as you can see on the sign.

This was a recurring theme going all the way to the end of the route. Thirty minutes later, we head to the end of the route... You can tell by the sanitation trucks.Where is this, you ask? Try Halsted/Lincoln/Fullerton. It was almost 3pm when Jeff and I left here, and there will still floats nearby at that time.

The picture of the day, though... Makes me wonder if some straight people really are closet cases...

And note this was going on behind Grand Marshal Eric Alva's car no less. What a bad example of keeping the baptists away from the fun, CPD. Very classy indeed.

I think Eric was wondering why he was being booed and told to leave. It wasn't you, Eric...
I'm very certain that the committees and the press were not happy one bit by the loss of possible revenue gained from the disasters of all of this, but it happened. Nevertheless, Jeff and I saw everything, saw Ben as well like he wanted, and then it was time to take him home. *cry*

Luckily for me, though, I'll be seeing him again soon enough.

Ciao for now!
