#503 all these ideas in my head

I've been going around and reading blogs now and then to ease my boredom. Just to share a few, been down to Simply Soap, a soap blog, the lady makes incredible soaps which are oh so appealing. And then there's Soap Queen, one of my daily must visits. It was where I got caught into the whole soapmaking hobby. And then my greatest find of the day = Sweetapolita! The cakes there are totally amazing. 9 layer cakes... 8 layer cakes. Huge tall cakes with frosting. Such American layer cakes always gets to me. One day, maybe when I'm older, I want to have a cake shop that makes such yummy looking cakes. And now I'm dying to try out her Fluffy White Vanilla Cake recipe. She has amazing photos too.

I do need to stop being lazy and start using my dslr once again! It's more than a year old and I'm still such an amateur at using it.

My attempt at making red velvet cake today with natural beetroot colouring has failed. My cake turned from a reddish brown to a chestnut brown colour when it was all ready. Boohoo. Apparently, pH levels affect the colour of beetroot which is the same as in soapmaking! I remembered that beetroot juice never stays purple-red in cold process soap because CP soaps are naturally alkaline. Therefore, the amount of dutch process cocoa and baking soda caused it to turn brown. I shall experiment using this recipe from Sophistimum. Anyway, I shall frost my cake later and post up some photos. Don't think it's a good day for photographing. It's raining again.

Update: Cake!
