inhaling death to taste
love or fingertips or knees
three years old
alone in her room
her face contorts
red open mouth
wrapping arms
my shoulders
let our eyes release
she wants love she wants love
her face is my father’s
i want to run
rip tear burn her picture
untangle synapse
she’s bathing in chemicals
too starved to see
the light in my eyes
watching her
tired cheeks
a love so precious
surrendered to a stranger
taken from the little girl
shrinking in her bedroom
hungry
where is her power?
curling up around her
we shake she can’t sleep
but stops crying
i tell her i love her
but i’m so tired
let’s sleep
let’s sleep and keep our
love between us
sleeping in my heart
tear the well out
break the stones
let blue milk
glitter in my chest and
fill me with
sweetness
my own light is brighter
than a dimming woman
that closed door
sheets circling our sleep
to let her go
