The Syria mess
Shit. I support Obama. I like him. I want him to be successful. But this Syria thing is fubar.
1. If he wanted to do some kind of military strike, he should have just done it. It should already be in the rear-view mirror at this point. Looking to get congressional approval was just dumb, because I think there are enough republicans in the house who will say no to whatever he asks that it is going to be a struggle. Unless he is brilliant: maybe he wants congress to say no, so his hands are tied, but he doesn't take the blame if more bad shit happens?
2. Politics aside, I hate the idea of an attack that will likely kill more civilians than the initial chemical weapon use did. I also hate the idea that Bashar al-Asshat gets away with what happened and feels free to repeat it. But I think where I'm coming down is that we should just pass unless we can do some kind of surgical precision strike to kill Assad and/or the senior military leadership (e.g. Maher al-Assad) responsible for the initial attacks. Legality of assassination of a foreign head of state is an issue, of course.
