Well, for the second time this semester, the village has witnessed a fire. Only this time, instead of it being the corner where a shitty little haircutting place and a mexican restaurant were, my beloved Von's has burned all to hell.
For those of you who are not familiar with the Chauncey Hill Village area right on the edge of Purdue's campus, I shall explain.....
Von's is a kickass little music, book, bead, and card shop. Imagine Underground Sounds, Carmichael's Books, Electric Lady Land, and the recycled paper card aisle at Hallmark with an entire section of the store covered with billions of beads all wrapped into one and you have the quaint little kickass store that is Von's. This place has been around since even before my dad attended Purdue in the 70s. Very cool place that I always told everyone they needed to stop into upon visiting the campus.
However, it was only the attic and Von's along with the 4 apartments upstairs only sustained water damage and shall return good as new by the end of spring. Sad part is that our campus loses yet another center of culture and I shall not be here for its glorious return.
BUT.... what really pisses me off is that all these ignorant fucks up here were worried about was whether or not Harry's was gonna burn. Harry's Chocolate Shop is the oldest bar in IN and it is a total shitty campus dive bar that is like the absolute center of drunken culture for this campus and all of its alumni. While Harry's is fun as hell, I can't believe these people could be that insensitive to the loss of one of the greatest little places in the world. Bunch of fucks!!!
Poor Von's :(
