[ Sophie is probably one of the hardest people to get to understand things, and, of course, she still doesn't get what recently happened - at all. All of a sudden she had what she believed to be real family, people she was legitimately related to. Asbel called her family before, but this time it was a different kind of family (a different kind of ( Read more... )

... It was an experiment, Sophie. A lot of people are upset, but I'm sure you still have a family.

An experiment? [ She remembers being told about them before.

And a pause. ] So Asbel is still my father? [ And because she recognizes this girl's voice (assuming they interacted at least once behind the scenes, here)- ] And you're my mother?

I'm sure he wouldn't have any objections to being your father if you asked. [That was one thing she noticed ever since Sophie arrived, how protective Asbel is of her, and how much he doted on her.

Yet that last question...] ... Do you want me to be your mother, Sophie?

So if I ask, he will? [ She thinks about that. It was nice having him as a father - it felt nice.

And to that last part- ] ... I don't know. Is it okay?

It wouldn't hurt to ask, though I can't see why not. [Tear herself enjoyed having a family, even if it wasn't 'real.' Before then all she had ever known was Van.]

... I don't mind at all if that's what you want, Sophie. It was... nice, being your mother. Family doesn't need to be related by blood to be family. [Words fail to describe what she felt about it.]

I'll ask, then. [ If it really can't hurt, then it's okay, she assumes!!

And there's a rather long pause, as she considers the things Tear said. ]

... It was nice?

Actually... it was more than that. [She just wasn't sure how to describe it, even more so to Sophie.]

I was... happy, to be a part of your family with everyone.

[ Sophie ... might need a better description than that. She has a vague, at best, understanding of the word 'happy'. ]

... Happy?

[Tear isn't even sure how to describe being 'happy,' she doesn't know if what she feels is the same as Sophie.]

Yes, being able to spend time with everyone and smiling together. It... made me feel warm inside, and I treasured it.

Feel warm inside ... [ A pause. ] If you're my mother, you'll be happy, and feel warm inside? [ Another pause. ] And smile?

[Dear, did you have to put it that way? Even if she weren't her mother...] I think I would smile even if we were just friends, Sophie.
