Thoughts on tonight's Lost, a BSG comparison, and other bits of randomness under the cut.

It might be something as simple as the actress not connecting with you in the right way.

I think this might be it, because I have seen Glen Close in the Shield and I have always gotten odd vibes from her. Like maybe she plays her characters as a little mentally unstable.

Yeah, I will agree that S2 was not as good as S1. The whole Daniel Purcell bit left me cold and annoyed; and while I liked Claire, I had a hard time buying the fact that she had no idea about Walter's dark side.

Really, Tom is the only character in Damages that I like. It is not very deep, but it's uncomplicated love.

From what I have seen-and since it is me and I can never resist an LFN comparison, Ellen/Patty mirrors Nikita/Madeline and Ellen/Nikita will never really be a worthy successor to Patty/Madeline. Ellen/Nikita may recognize a need for the Patty/Madeline's of the world; but they will never be the successor that Patty/Madeline want them to be. And Patty/Madeline's inability to see that Ellen/Nikita cannot be completely molded will always be their weakness/downfall.

I looove Tom. However, you will be very unhappy as a Tom fan in season three (which btw, is much more awesome than S2). Just to warn you.

And I totally agree on the Madeline/Nikita and Patty/Ellen comparisons. Except Madeline/Nikita was handled very poorly by TPTB, while Patty/Ellen was handled with amazing awesomeness, to the point where it became one of the main draws of the show. But yes, there are a lot of similarities.

The more that I think about Madeline and Patty the more comparisons that arise. And yes, one of the biggest failings of LFN was the way that they handled Madeline/Nikita.

Yeah, they had their little confrontation in the S4 finale and Nikita was a bit of a bitch to holo Maddy, but I still wanted something more from that relationship.

I thought Madeline/Nikita was totally botched. And there was such potential there! Apparently the writing staff couldn't think of anything else to do with them but make them enemies. I also heard that the actresses hated each other, so maybe that was part of it...

Really, I had no idea that there was friction between Alberta Watson and Peta Wilson. Do you have any more details because I find this kind of interesting?

The only thing that I had ever heard was that there was some sort of backstage drama with Peta but that was just some stray comment.

I guess if there was friction between them that the two women that would explain why Madeline was only in one S5 episode. I was about to say that her episode wasn't the best, but then I remember S5 and I realize that 'A girl who wasn't there' was probably the best episode of S5.

Well, the Inside Section One book had some information on it. Peta Wilson stated in her interview that they'd had a fight, and elsewhere in the book someone mentioned tensions between the actresses. We'll probably never know the full story. In any case, I don't think it was the sole reason the Madeline/Nikita relationship went the way it did, but it may have played a part.

Well, I always thought that their scenes together were particularly frosty after S1-S2, but I attributed that to the directional change in their relationship, which it probably was anyways.

Oh, well, not every show sings the kumbaya song.

Oh forgot to ask is the Inside Section One book any good/worth purchasing?

Eh...it was rather expensive. And although there is a *lot* of information it's almost too much--it's overwhelming and feels like the author just threw everything in (there are actually interviews with the guy who drove the transport van). That being said, the episode guide and some of the interviews are interesting and have some cool tidbits. But there isn't a lot about Madeline and TR so if you're just into it for that than you might be disappointed. Overall, I don't think it's worth the money. But I'm not unhappy that I have it.

Thanks for the info!

I saw a copy on Half.com for like 350$ so I think that I will pass for now. Maybe if I win the lottery!

And honestly, I really haven't read many interviews or listened to any of the commentaries about the show. I do like to read people's recaps of episodes and see their interpretation, but I haven't been very big on official interpretations on LFN.

Thanks for the info and I will definitely check out Amazon if I ever make a decision about whether I want the book or not. 45$ dollars is a lot more palatable than 350$.
