Quick question and then the fic: Of the two vids, did you prefer the quotes/instrumental track or just the song with actual lyrics? Or should I try a combo vid of quotes and song with actual lyrics?
A/N: The first one will probably need some explanation or at least something like that. In S3’s “Imitation of death,” Nikita gets sent on a mission to find out the new weapon system that this Russian guy is supposedly creating and it turns out the Russian guy is creating/training kid soldiers. When Nikita reports back to TR, they have a little mysterious/ambiguous discussion about Nikita’s findings; and later in the episode, we see Nikita go to level eight inside of Section and there is a little girl with blonde hair, who I’m assuming is supposed to be her clone since there was an earlier plot point about the Russian guy and his scientist stealing her egg.
Oh, there is the off chance that I will be expanding one of these into a larger fic, but there is also the chance that I will forget about them/go brain dead and then you can safely assume that everyone in the fic died in a fiery explosion of happy endings.
The first fic originated from a discussion with
daybreak777 The second fic is
nell65 's idea and I can't thank
nell65 enough for letting me borrow it.
I have two more wips on my desktop that I'm working on finishing so expect them either later today or in a couple of days.

Imitation of Life
“Are you sure that this is the right thing to do, Walter?”
“Of course, Sugar, no one deserves this fate.”
“Except for them.”
“They are not them. They may share their DNA and their names, but this little girl and that little boy are not Madeline and Operations. Look at Jason, he may share his brother’s DNA and skill set, but his personality is completely different. Sugar, if you keep them here, you will end up resurrecting Madeline and Operations.”
Nikita knows that Walter is right, knows that letting their genetic clones go is the right thing to do, but she also knows that the one thing that they taught her was that doing the right thing in Section was often the wrong thing to do.
****
She likes it here better. This place has order and structure and is not as noisy or as cluttered as the place she was living at before the crash. This place almost reminds her of her real home…
Paul misses the endless fields that surrounded their last home, but she much prefers the ocean and its boundaries. She doesn’t need the illusion of freedom because she knows that her path is already set.
Her new mother Adrian has told her that she has a destiny, but Madeline is certain that she is lying about both her name and destiny. The name’s hint of aristocracy and personality doesn’t quite fit with her new mother, and Adrian’s friend always seems to stumble over the name like it reminds him of an unfortunate outcome. And Madeline is sure that Adrian does not believe in fickle things like destiny and fate and that her life is based around projections, simulations, and contingencies.
Adrian is more her teacher than her mother, but Madeline is fine with that because it will make things easier in the end. Adrian may have plans to shape her, to use her as an instrument to take back this mysterious Section; but Madeline has plans of her own and they don’t include Adrian.
Unexpected Allies
Madeline has always hated this office. Hated its general lack of efficiency and how the office’s enormous size is wasted on storing racks of clothes.
She is only here because after today’s events with Paul and the broken Red Cell truce, she needs the space.
The fact that this office serves as a reminder to Nikita about how dependent and small she once was, is only an afterthought. Madeline is not entirely sure why Nikita asked for this meeting; perhaps, Nikita plans on using today’s events as a way to create a wedge between her and Paul. It won’t work of course, but she does have a plan to ensure that Paul knows the gravity of cutting her off and leaving her to die.
Her musings on Paul are broken off when she hears the doors swing open.
“It is over for you at Section.”
“That is a curious interpretation.”
“Really, Operations, the closest thing you have to a friend, tried to have killed today. Michael is no longer under your thumb. Birkoff and Walter disobey you and Operations at every turn. You can no longer touch me because I have been working for Center and I have their protection. And in a few weeks, Center will be putting an operation into place to have you removed from Section and Paul reduced to a figurehead.”
“Since you already have your endgame mapped out, then why involve me at all,” Madeline replies, unfazed by Nikita’s revelations. She has known about most of this already; but she has been distracted by integrating Jason and solving their comm problem to map out an exit strategy yet.
“Center underestimates you. They believe that Red Cell will be successful in helping me distract you. I know better.”
Madeline considers Nikita’s statement for a moment. It is true that she and Paul could thread the eye of the needle once more and walk away from this situation still in charge of Section, but this last year has been one of disastrous failures and the threads of their partnership are beginning to fray. And eventually, their reign will come to an end and Michael has proven himself to be an unworthy successor. Maybe it is time to regroup…
“I will require Operations' life.”
“Of course, I’m sure that we can come up with a suitable way to fake his death.”
With the initial plan formulated of having Nikita defect to Red Cell, Nikita turns to leave Madeline’s former office but she is stopped in the doorway by Madeline’s voice. “Nikita, you know that eventually I will come after you.”
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
