run Jarod run

Last night mama_gryphon and I watched The Pretender 2001 and The Pretender: Island of the Haunted, two movies that aired on TNT in an attempt to placate fans howling over the abrupt cliffhanger at the end of the regular series, which NBC canceled after four seasons.  They were fun, although Island of the Haunted vaulted a shark or two in its attempt to blend Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade with The X-Files.  At least you got plenty of backstory on the origins of the Centre and just how intertwined Jarod's and Miss Parker's histories really are.  (If you're a fan of The Pretender I'll leave it at that so you can check out the movies yourself; they're now available on a single DVD edition.)

Still (and I don't think it spoils anything to say this) I was pretty unsatisfied at the end of Island of the Haunted.  Nobody important died (indeed, in the case of Raines, it's been demonstrated the fucker can't be killed by normal means); and despite all the grand revelations about the Centre and Jarod's mom and the Parker family tree and the shadowy Triumvirate, nothing changed at the end.  Jarod was still on the run, and Miss Parker was still chasing him.  A third movie was promised, but has stalled for lack of financing.

Not that I wouldn't mind seeing Andrea Parker on the chase again.  But there had better be real closure.
