Well, the way I look at consoles is pretty simple (you know me, you know I'm a PC gamer). Look at the best bang for the buck. Now, with that said:
Bang = a wide range of games, cutting edge technology, applicable and usable options, etc.

HD is neat. The 360 is running 1080 games now... and it boggles my mind that Sony can't get their shit together for even a preview of a HD game. While the majority of HD signals (and displays for that matter) are running in 720, it'd still be lovely to see a 1080 game from a supposed cutting edge console.

It's a racket, of course. They're going to ship just enough to whet the appetites of the likes of IGN, other gaming sites, and gaming bloggers. They are most likely going to try to get a bigger buzz going in order to magically come up with a massive stock of systems around the 21st of December. That way, everyone will simultaneously orgasm and shit their pants.

It'll be a golden age for detergent producers.

The jury is still out on the Blu-Ray versus HD battle... however, I see HD being the winner in this. There are already HD-DVD players out, HD-DVD's out, and the price isn't re-fucking-diculous. I watched a few minutes of Apollo 13 in 1080 HD-DVD... it was eye candy like I had never experienced before.

For most applications, the 1080 isn't going to make that much of a difference..

this though, this made that difference.

Yeah.

The biggest reason why they are down to 15% of their original said stock of consoles though is because that many of them have failed testing. That's why the number keeps dwindling. More and more of the consoles they produce are failing miserably so they can't put them in the stores. That makes me laugh. Who knows, since way over half of the PS3's already made are failing, if the ones that didn't fail the test right away are going to be fine for a long time. That's just piss-poor planning imo.

Oh yeah:

This is why I'm all for the Wii. Wide range of games (unlike the gamecube), new technology (that's fun too), very user friendly as I've heard, low price, so on. ;) And I actually would buy a 360 as well (even though I said I'd never buy an X-Box, but then again, it didn't have games I liked until Sony started shooting themselves in the foot), though not until I was able to afford an HD TV. So, not for a while for the 360.
