Hell yeah! Stupid bitches in the media...
At least scientists are reasonable about this issue. The bonuses are required to maintain competitiveness. The ones they are rewarding may not ever have been the root of the problem, yet people are PISSED because of the implication of the word "bonuses" without ever learning the structure of the system.
I am thoroughly disappointed in everyone who is upset over the bonuses. They are short sighted people who most likely aren't able to see past their uneducated bubble.
