subtitle: I've forgotten how to count. :-)
Someone in
geocaching asked what my 10 favorite caches and 3 least favorite caches were. While I declined to name my 3 least favorite caches, here's the list of my 10 favorite and an extra one thrown in to boot:
1.
Tube TorcherTo this cache, all other caches pale in comparison. This was the absolute most fun I've ever had while caching, hands down. It's a crying shame someone stole the last stage and it got archived. I really hope IndianaLee an CrotalusRex come up with a sequel.
2.
Earth, Wind, Fire, WaterThis cache was inspired by Tube Torcher and it shows. NCTreker has done a fabulous job on this one. This cache tests you up and down and only the chosen few come through it to find this cache. Definitely do this one in a group.
3-6. (In no particular order)
Three Rings for the Elven Kings,
Seven for the Dwarf Lords,
Nine for Mortal Men, and
One Ring to Rule Them All.
This series of caches is best done as a quest. I had the honor and privilege to be among the first group to do it and contributed by solving the first puzzle and finding the Nine for Mortal Men cache. It is very well done and the views from these caches (especially that of the Two Towers from the last two caches) are just amazing. Very well put together. Very well done, and highly recommended.
7.
Not At These CoordinatesAnother one from The Alethiometrists, this one stumped me for a long time. The puzzle is very well done and the "Eureka" moment when solving the puzzle is priceless. :-) In addition, the cache itself is very well hidden and requires out of the box thinking to find.
8.
Aerial Intelligence II - The SuburbsWhen my wife and I hadn't been geocaching for very long we visited friends in the DC area and spent over an hour trying to figure out the puzzle to this cache. When we finally figured it out, we discovered it was only a few blocks from where we used to live in Arlington, VA! Sadly, however, we were unable to find the actual cache at that time. Fast forward a year or so later and we came back wiser and more experienced and found the cache easily. My wife and liked this cache so much, it inspired us (even before we found this cache) to do a similar one where we live:
Aerial Intelligence - Research Triangle.
9.
I540 Multi Micro CacheAll three stages of this multi cache were very well done. On the second stage, while
jklgoduke and Mr. Horsegeeks were looking elsewhere I found it and told them to come over. However, I didn't disturb it and after having them look right at it for several minutes I finally showed it to them. }:-) (evil grin)
10.
Deep SpaceThis one makes the list as much for where it took
jklgoduke and I as for the cache itself. This cache is right next to the
NRAO's Very Large Array radio telescope which is basically in the middle of nowhere. After having visited their
Greenbank radio telescope (largest fully steerable radio telescope in the world) the summer before, coming out to the VLA was just icing on the cake and to get a smiley out of it too was over the top. :-)
And, just because I thought about it, here's a bonus one for my list. :-)
11.
Waverly Micro MicroThe only really micro cache on the list (I540 Multi Micro is really a small, not a micro), this one taught me about effective camouflage. I looked directly at this one for several minutes before finally realizing it was there. :-)
So, what are other people's favorite caches?
